I'm not sure that this is accurate. The word is that he was going to be outed and he decided to control the narrative and release it himself.

That's what I thought. Who was going to out him?

Yeah, I don't think that was his goal. I'm pulling for the guy. Unfortunately he had a pretty terrible combine.

He certainly did his part for the media circus.

I'm sure there will be a lot of media attention and talk of protests. I don't think it will actually amount to much and like all stories of fake outrage, it will go away as soon as the media find something more interesting to talk about.

I don't think it was his intention but that is what happened. I genuinely don't think it was ever Tebow's intention to be a media circus about his religious views but the end result is the same.

Timing is everything. If I was his agent, I would have advised him to keep it to himself until after the NFL draft. His agent might well have done that and he ignored the advise. And yea the controversy combined with his mediocre combine showing sure didn't help his prospects. But if he knew his sexual orientation was going to be outed before the draft then yea, I guess I can see his perspective. Regardless, when you are looking for any job, including a pro career, you want the focus on your qualifications and not on anything else unrelated to your fitness for the position.
