Take the mans whole body of work, not just the last few years at UCLA. Every coach goes through dry spells except Wooden.

Howland deserves a second chance. He was clean up to the point at UCLA, and still even with that, has no NCAA infractions against him that I'm aware of. Just an ugly situation he found himself in at UCLA.

Howland really fell off his last 5 years at UCLA. Of course that's from final fours to 1st and 2cd round losses. He missed a couple years too. Marshall is Wichita State silly.

Billy D went to the NC in 2000 then had five straight tournaments where he couldn't get past the second round. Some florida fans started calling him one and done Donovan, thought he peaked and should be fired. Of course on the sixth try, he made it past the second round and won an NC.

I don't think tournament success is the best way to judge a coach as there is a lot of luck involved in going far. UConns first game went down to the wire, but then they ended up winning the whole thing.

My point is, I don't get why people are so tough on Howland and shocked he still doesn't have a job. I think he is a great coach, although he doesn't play a brand of basketball I personally like. Can't argue with the results though. Three straight Final Fours is a huge accomplishment, Maybe more happened behind the scenes?

There is also that. Missouri fans are not use to that style of play

This is what we were saying about Haith 18 months ago.

If Abby Grantstein's boyfriend doesn't have a big mouth, Howland might have a show cause at this point.

You may be right about the Shabazz incident and what could of happened. Howland may have known more, maybe not, not my judgement to make. I do understand how much of a cesspool the UCLA power brokers and the AAU system can drag down a coach.

I'm just reporting a rumor from PM that has picked up some steam. If Howland's fingers are dirty in that fiasco, let's hope he learned a valuable lesson and just wants another chance at a place he can win. Whether this rumor is true or not (I lean towards not totally being true as I think the Marshall hire has to be played out first) I don't know if Alden would pull the trigger on hiring Howland.

If Alden hires Howland, I think it will give an indication of how nervous he is about this hire. It will be completely out of character. And two of the big problems we has with Haith, the ability to effectively discipline players and NCAA clouds, will be replicated in Howland.

I like it how you guys are realistic about the coaching situation unlike that team in orange.

On the discipline side, you can't say that with any certainty at all. This crap only reared it's ugly head when UCLA entered the picture and the cesspool of their high expectations and big money boosters. Not saying it couldn't repeat itself, but could easily go the other way and would never be a problem. Nontheless, coaching searches can be exciting, let's just hope it's not another "wtf who is Frank Haith" moment.

But it wasn't limited to just Reeves. And it was a result of Howland's inability to manage his AAU relationships. He's Bobby Petrino light, IMO.

I don't like Howland cause he would rather be playing beer pong with star player than getting them ready for that other game...

If he is hired I will be behind it like Haith. I might have a short outburst at first but I will get over it...

To me, and I am specifically talking about me. The best hire Mizzou could make is Miller. Yeah people are not sold, I am, especially the bloodlines. If you are going to build a program you go young, just my opinion. Not saying 20 years of Marshall or Howland would be terrible but I'd rather gamble on having Miller for 30-40 years.

1) Anyone have any news on the coach search? Any inside info from insider sites or sources around campus?

2) If you had to assess a percentage of likelihood of who our coach next year will be, what percent would you assign each of these possibilities (all adding up to 100% of course):

Gregg Marshall
Shaka Smart
Kim Anderson
Ben Howland
Someone else

Ben Howland 2%
Someone else 92%

I've heard we will pay up to 2.75 for Marshall, but that's it. If that's not enough, and it likely won't be I think we end up with Ben Howland for right around 2. That will be an excellent hire. Hope that's who we get.

No thanks on Howland.

Not sure why $2.75M wouldn't be enough for Marshall. If we offer $2.75M and he says no, it's not because of money. That's a million raise or so and would put him in the top 10 in the nation.

Why on earth would we pay a max of 2.75 but not 3.25? The additional .5 million could probably be made up easily over a few years of ticket and tv revenue if we were consistently ranked 15-25 with marshall, as opposed to consistently around 40 with howland.

Why would we hire him for $3.25M when no one has ever been hired for that amount?

Calipari's initial contract with Kentucky was less than $3M and he was a far more proven commodity.
