So why was Bear so ineffective while at Kentucky?

He has the university's only National Championship(in Football anyways). I'd say he did well.

Bear was successful and won championships everywhere he went except for Maryland.

Well, if he was the reason for the demise of another SEC team, then it should be easy to point to the demise of a SEC team while he was at Kentucky, I guess you can pin the death penalty for SMU as being a result of him being at aTm if you want.

He was the death of the SWC then. Bear Bryant dismantled the SWC.

What killed Ole Miss football wasn't segregation. That certainly didn't help....

...decades of the GOB system using our Athletic Dept. like a country club killed us. We haven't really applied ourselves for much more than the past 10 years. That's the main reason why Tubbs left us for Auburn....and I don't blame him at all. He wanted us to build a new T&F complex and we refused. He left and then we built it 2 years later.

Everyone is missing the biggest factor. Bear Bryant came to Bama in 1958 and won 3 national titles in 8 years and took the mantle away from Ole Miss. Really very simple, Bear moves in and Ole Miss is history. Doesn't have a damn thing to do with anything else.

What a good discussion going on until you brought your feces in... Do yourself a favor and stay on the bama board if you even have access...

The game changed dramatically. Small schools have little to no chance to compete now, int he 60's that wasn't the case. Ole Miss was a larger university in relation to the rest of the nation then as well.

I understand that Ole Miss. was still good in 58,59,60 but that was because their team was already established, once Bryant got his team to the top in 1961, Ole Miss was basically finished as a power, sure that had a few more good years after 61, but Bear won 6 titles in 19 years.

Anyone using their brain would know Bryant didn't takeover until 61.

Other than the predictably self-centered gump post, this is a pretty interesting thread.

I mean, even without the racial issues, their ceiling as a program is Arkansas-esque, so they'll never win the SEC, even in Obama's America.

Gumps don't realize that they're the reason their state has such a bad reputation.

It would be different if he was trolling, but he actually believes what he's saying...
