Can we stop pretending like making the NCAA tournament is a big deal?

Why do people here act like it's some major accomplishment to make it into the NCAA tournament? Shouldn't that be the damn baseline?

Tennessee fans aren't asking for a lot. We don't expect to win as much as Kentucky or Florida with Donovan. But since the field expanded to 32, Tennessee has made the tournament about half the time, and that's with borderline sabotage when Doug Dickey was the athletic director. Why are people acting like stumbling into a field of 68 is some historic feat?

For us it is because we have not done it in a while. Like the period of football coaching changes that we went through, I would have been happy with 9 to 10 win seasons - not anymore.

Oh, and I think the big deal is that how can you not make a field of 64? How bad do you have to be?

Because we make it so seldom.

Now that Fulmer is gone and your football program sucks arse, I have no bitterness toward you. I actually pulled hard for you in the tournament. Maybe basketball is your thing now.

Go with it.

When your coach has only made it twice in 16 seasons of coaching, yet somehow is able to keep his job after taking a team which made it 6 straight years into the sewer, it's a big deal.

351 schools eligible for the 68 spots in the tourney.

115 schools compete ting for 33 bowls.

It is easier to make a bowl game than the NCAA's, most Tennessee fans seemed to be content with missing yet another bowl last season.

It's a lot harder to make the post season in basketball than in football, but people act like making a bowl game is a big deal too.

No. Because for most programs it is.

Because frankly if you're in, it means you still have a shot at a National Championship.
