Wonder what made him decide to leave

he knew he'd win the job and didn't want to risk injury getting horse collared

We have two scholarship QBs this year - Hill and Allen. Matt left because after spring practice he asked about his chance of starting and was given an honest answer. He's pretty good, and he's a great guy. If we have injuries at the QB position, this will have turned out to be a big deal.

The bigger problem is that Allen, a true freshmen and Hill, a true sophomore, are the only two scholarship QBs on campus. If Allen wins the starting job and Hill, who is also very good, decides to transfer, we're screwed.

Where was he on the depth chart? #2 with the most time in the system out of all the QBs?

Actually, he was #3.

might have something to do with graduate school requirements, and he was probably never going to win the starting job

Supposedly, the Mays school requires current work experience and did not grant him a waiver.

We'll probably see him at Rice.

I just saw that, damn. Yall have no depth at QB right now. If Allen fails earlier or Hill gets hurt, season is dead.

Isn't he from Dallas?

I guess it would make sense to play closer to home.

That would give TCU a starting QB and WR (moving Boykin back).

It's because Sumlin promised Speedy he could play QB obviously.

Sumlin should have bolted for NFL, this is going to get ugly for Aggies

Pretty sure he was no. 3 behind Kenny Hill and Kyle Allen.
He wasn't going to start.
Don't blame him a bit.
He/the Joeckels are Ags to the core ... everyone wishes him the best.

That has to be scary for A&M fans this year.

If he was ever forced to step in and be the starter, our season was over anyway. No biggie.

Wish him luck. He was a solid QB but there is a lot of huge upside with Hill and Allen. To be fair, if injuries happen it can be problematic.
