Joeckel was decent, but not better than Allen or Hill. I think most Ags will view this as a positive sign regarding Kyle Allen. Allen arrived in January, and has shown the coaches some promise during Spring practice. If Joeckel saw the writing on the wall, then the coaches must have confidence in Allen and Hill also.
Good luck to Joeckel if he wants to be a starter, and he should give it a shot at another school.

Agree but it leaves us thin in case of injury.

Dumb as frick...it's not possible for him to get work experience
Those are the requirements of the Mays Business School...apparently because of the high demand.

lol @ thinking a 3rd string guy transferring is something worrisome
This. It takes a lot of spin to make any team losing their 3rd string QB seem impactful.

Joeckel could have been 3rd on the depth chart. If we really need a 3rd string QB to play, then McQueen can jump in there...

Considering that we seem to be cursed when it comes to senior quarterbacks in their final season, it's a good thing he's not starting.

Kyle Allen must have locked up the starting job.
God, I hope so.

That has to be scary for A&M fans this year.
scary would have been if he had won the starting job

I just saw that, damn. Yall have no depth at QB right now. If Allen fails earlier or Hill gets hurt, season is dead.
Lots of people here aren't thinking this through with any intelligence at all. ANY SCHOOL out there that has to START THEIR 3RD STRING QB is F'KED! Name a school who isn't....

Former #TAMU QB Matt Joeckel is transferring to #TCU, sources said. Nothing is official yet.

Allen ran the spread at his HS team, plus many of the coaches at the camps have said he's the most college ready QB they've seen:

Obviously, starting a true fish is always going to be an iffy situation, but there's at least reason to hope that Allen (if he beats out Hill) will have success.

I asked the following question to various coaches at the Elite 11 quarterback competition: "how would [quarterback] do if asked to start as a true freshman?"
The coaches answered, but preferred anonymity. And even then, most would not harshly criticize a player. Keep in mind that the coaches factored in the school to which the player is committed. Included are the thoughts of the coaches, and a bio from the Elite 11 roster.
A chance to succeed
Two names stood out above the rest: Kyle Allen and Deshaun Watson, with David Blough and Jerrod Heard also mentioned frequently.
Kyle Allen, Texas A&M commit: The 6'3, 190-pounder is a consensus four-star quarterback. Allen passed for 3,119 yards and 36 TDs as a junior with only seven interceptions. He had over 20 college offers, including Arizona, Arizona State, Notre Dame, Ohio State and UCLA, before committing to the Texas A&M Aggies.
Several coaches continued to be in awe of how advanced Allen was as a passer -- a sentiment that was present during his regional performance. Allen even ran his team's offense during one practice. Allen makes very few mistakes typical of a high schooler.
With Johnny Manziel potentially leaving for the NFL after the 2013 season, the feeling at the camp was that Allen could step in and hold his own, even in the tough SEC West division.
