Take a look at Pearl's classes and Martin's classes. Martin is not even in the same neighborhood.

There aren't many coaches out there who can recruit like Pearl. Probably less than 10. Again, reasonable expectations.

It's one thing for a media drama queen like Forde to pimp out a misinformed, sensationalized, BS story for clicks but for anyone with a brain to actually believe it? Well that's on you.

Is it sensationalized? Absolutely. There is, however, a lot of truth behind it.

If y'all expect UT to consistently land elite basketball players, you're going to be disappointed. There aren't that many coaches out there who can do that at non-traditional basketball school.

This is exactly the type of expectation problem I was talking about.

IOW, don't you dare want to establish a program. Don't you dare ask your school which has the basketball money to invest in winning. JUST DON'T DARE!

That is your argument and it's quite silly not to mention presumptuous to tell those who want to invest in a program and want that program to succeed that they have no right to even try. Furthermore we ARE a basketball school and we have the tradition but your standard is that only UK and Duke are allowed to demand excellence from their program, especially when the roster has talent for excellence and is clearly under-performing. Quite frankly, the argument is bullshite.

Step 1 buy into media lie about your rival.
Step 2 claim media lie is truth.
Step 3 profit.

Howland can. Archie Miller is one of the nation's best recruiters. Marshall has Pearl's best recruiting assistant on his staff. Boyle recruited very well at Tennessee as an assistant, as did Frank.

All of these guys have proven they can recruit at a higher level than Martin.

Not sure why we should settle for a bottom of the SEC recruiter. No one is suggesting we hire Cal or Self.

The Gruden thing was no online thing but real. He has always expressed if there were two college football jobs he would listen to it were Notre Dame. AND. Tennessee.

Typical misinformed Vol fan.

No it's not. Far from it actually. I'm saying that y'all are going about it the wrong way.

Non-traditional programs are built through patient, stable processes. Not by hiring and firing on whims.

Example of good basketball program that is not a traditional power: UVA, who has stood by their coach through tough times while maintaining investment and support in the program. Coincidentally, Martin's Vols beat them this year.

Would you say that there has been a healthy, positive environment surrounding the UT AD in recent years?

In the past couple of years, yes. During Hamilton's tenure? No.

Interesting. Sure doesn't seem that way from a third-party perspective. You know, with the mid-season petitions and firing football coaches (I know that Dooley needed to go, but still)

Dooley wasn't fired mid-season.

There never was a Martin petition. Well actually there was - it was to a petition to extend/raise Martin post-tourney.

What?

But Cuonzo Martin is not Bruce Pearl, and that's basically why Martin is no longer the coach at Tennessee and suddenly the coach at California, because he was never going to be BP in the eyes of UT fans, and he was smart enough to know it. The best example of this came this season, when fans started an online petition designed to encourage the administration to fire Martin and rehire Pearl. Roughly 40,000 folks signed the petition before Pearl took the Auburn job last month, and this all happened while Martin was in the middle of a season that would culminate with a trip to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

The petition spelled out it was NOT to FIRE Martin. The whole thing was made when it looked like he'd be fired but did not call for him being fired. The point was to show support for Pearl and ask that he be hired IF and only IF Martin were not to return/be fired but without encouraging or supporting any firing. This distinction escaped the media which reported it as a petition to fire Martin but that's not what it was.

Sorry the media lied to you and everyone else but tis a lie.

Memphis basketball has the same impact on UT basketball as programs like Cincy or Xavier. Good program in the vicinity, but no impact on our program especially since you are afraid to play us now.

So?

My lame attempt at trolling. Though I do find it interesting that Memphis keeps Pastner while y'all let a coach go who took you to the Sweet Sixteen.
