I personally know some college basketball players that shaved points for money

It's possible I guess, but even if true we were outplayed that day and Bama deserved to win. Congrats and move on...I have.

Here is a link to a story about it:
On the other hand, anyone who actually had to watch LSU's offense trudge on and off the field between wildly off-target third-down passes by quarterback Jordan Jefferson for the better part of three hours has a right to defend his own sense of offensive decency. Jefferson, in his 19th career start, finished the night 10-of-22 passing for 75 yards, three chain-moving completions and two interceptions,

what was Lee going to do but make it worse? Miles knew it was JJ or bust. Lee was useless in this situation.
This is my belief. I also think with the way the o-line played, a different QB wearing #9, that plays in the same stadium would of had no better luck. Just wasn't our day, and a lot of that just goes to how well the Bama D was prepared and played. Congrats to Bama, they won the National Title. It was still an absolutely great year for LSU.

Nope. Jefferson and LSU defeated Alabama two times in a row. The Tide just had their number in the most important game.
That LSU defense did everything it could do, but FG after FG after FG just took their spirit. LSU's offense played like shite. Straight up.
Coach Miles wasn't going to throw Lee in that game so he could get injured. I respected that.

One of the best, most rational comments I have seen about 1/9.

If someone paid, it was well before the NCG. Things started to slip after the KY game when Jefferson was inserted for the score after coming back from his suspension. There was an underlying split going on between the players. LSU relied on special teams for that spark towards the end as well as a bad arse d to make other teams quit. Bama doesn't quit and had LSUs number. Think about the Ark game. Tenn. LSU stunk up the place and relied on the D and special teams to make up for Jeffersons inability to be a QB. Bama never lost their edge and contained and tested our talents. Their coach actually watched film and saw what didn't work during round 1 and made adjustments. Miles felt that what he did I. Round one would work again. He was wrong.
People can argue all day if Lee would have made a difference or not in the NCG but that is irreverent. Why wasn't JJ pulled when he sucked against WKU? How about when he did noting against ark or Tenn? Then you throw in his performance in the NCG and no one has answers. I truly believe that there was a bunch of things that went down with players being pro JJ and other being pro JL and it came to a head at half time. As far as Miles not making any adjustments at all in the period of 4 games, I would like to know but that loss was all on our coach.
There is no telling what would have happened if Lee or anyone was in, but just having a drive after half may have made it respectable.

People can point out Lee's stats against Bama, and they make a good case for why he shouldn't have started the NCG.
But overall for 2011, Lee was incredible productive and efficient for what was essentially a power-run offense all season. I think 3rd quarter would have been too early to pull Jefferson, but I do think Lee should have gone in during the 4th.

When JJ trotted back out for the 2nd series in the 3rd quarter, that's when I knew there was no option B. I don't know if Lee would have made any difference but if we're going to lose, at least lose swinging. It was pretty discouraging.

If you read all the conspiracy theories and rumors about that game, that's obviously one of them. He was supposed to be point shaving to pay gambling debts.
Personally I think that's absurd. If that was what happened the team would have known it and he'd be persona non grata right now. And he's not for the guys on that team.
I think the rumor about the line calling out Miles to play Lee and Stud backing them up and then tanking it to prove he wasn't the most important part of the equation is probably closer.
Then there's the rumor that this happened and somehow that became a racial issue but that doesn't make much sense.
Whatever happened, you could see it plain as day in their body language. Something happened and that team was going to what they knew was going to be a slaughter.
They'd already beaten Alabama so there's no way Bama was going to be able to dominate that team so thoroughly without something else going on. You watch LSU come out after the half and tell me something didn't go down...

We may have lost anyway, but I just think despite stinking it up against Bama, Lee had done so much during the 2011 to earn a little bit of respect from the coaching staff. At least enough to close out the last game of his career.

:kige:
And I said earlier, I didn't think Brees would of won the way the team played.

Just remember. He was 2-2 against Alabama in his career. Embarrassing.

I heard Coach Miles did the nasty with JJ's girlfriend the night before, thus prompting JJ to throw the game against 'Bama.

Brees would have noticed Randle running open all night.

Yeah but Saban knew that all he had to do was put Lee on his arse a couple of times and that deer in headlights thing was going to happen.
Could Lee have risen to the challenge and proved himself? Maybe. But I doubt it. Saban was in that kids head.
Either way though, he should have gotten the shot. And the fact that he didn't just leads me to believe the story about the fight with the line and Stud vs Miles.

JJ excelled on 11/5/11 because of the option game. Saban's defenses (at least while at Bama) have always struggled against. They gave up 21 points to Georgia Southern because of it.
1/9/12 was the first and last time I have seen Bama contain an option running team from start to finish.
