and that deer in headlights thing was going to happen.

That was the problem and probably the source of Miles frustration with him. He had the highest efficiency rating in the conference, a great D, OL and running game...he had everything going for him and he came out of the first UA game completely bewildered.

Then there's the rumor that this happened and somehow that became a racial issue but that doesn't make much sense.

I think it was a "racial " issue long before 1-9. We all saw it I. The media during his suspension with his aunt on TV spouting he was suspended because he was black. We also see it in everyday life daily of an issue and no matter the right or wrongs, it's racial as well as many people take that route. I could see some of that happening during the season with some players thinking JJ was getting shafted because he was black. but the final result had nothing to do with it in my opinion. I just believe that Miles is that stubborn and was dead set on making JJ a winning QB and would die trying. Well he did.

Miles had the chance to once and for all put all the miles vs saban issues to rest. He had the chance to step out from his Shaddow and be that great coach. Regardless of what happened after that season, he would have turned the page and been up there with the greats. Well he shite the bed and will always be known as the quirky decent coach but not great. Im Proud of that team and its accomplishments, but at the end of the day, besides LSU fans, what does the rest of America remember from that magical season? LSU getting arse raped on national TV and Les looking like the idiot everyone perceives him as. Not saying if we would have shown up and played lights out we would have won, but at least make it respectable. That was a great Bama team. But it was also a great LSU team. It may have went down to the wire but at least we could be blaming it on a bad call or a kicker, not conspiracy theories because Les Miles is stubborn

Brees would have noticed Randle running open all night.

He wouldn't of been in that case. The team, lost the game. QB didn't matter. JMHO.

Yeah, the OL wasn't helping anyone.

Considering how different they were from the rest of the season, it's hard not to take into account the rumors they tanked it.

Idiots clamoring for Lee to get in, forget the past four years of him fricking up against Alabama. Miles knew they if JJ couldn't beat them with his legs, then we were fricked.

Miles sucked that night. Period. I remember us calling a run up the middle on 3rd and 10 with Spencer Ware on the 2nd series of the game. I recall us running JC Copeland (who had 1 carry for 0 yards on the year) on 3rd and 4th near the 40 in the 4th quarter when the game was just 15-0. The fact that those kinds of play calls happened was a joke.

The worst was Miles punting it on 4th and 9 with over 3 minutes left in the National Championship with no tomorrow for seniors, etc. I would have rather seen him put Lee in than quit competing. He quit.

As for Lee, we'll never know if he would've sucked or done something. Bama played a great defensive game, so it would've been tough either way. It would have been hard to do worse on offense than what we were doing. I wonder how Lee felt. He stuck it out at LSU when people were cutting him down like a tree throughout a good part of his time at LSU. I didn't think he would ever help LSU at the QB spot and we ended up relying on him to start and lead us through most of the season undefeated. That dude stuck it out and led us in Ws, passing yards, completion % and TDs that year. I think he deserved the shot that night based on his overall performance that year and how ineffective we were in that game. That's why you have more than one QB on the team. I didn't think it was fair to him or the team to not even try putting him in after a certain point.

Obviously this whole thread is useless conjecture but what I don't understand is if Les didn't trust Lee to replace JJ why the heck didn't he put in Mett? There was nothing to lose by trying for fricks sake.

I don't think anyone "payed" JJ to throw the game. Bama's defense was just unstoppable that game. LSU's defense played well too.

This.

LSU had many games late in the season where the offense was stagnant and struggling. The "D" always bailed out the "O". That is, until Bama got their 2nd chance. The Tide was just too strong for us to win another 6-3 game, but Les seemed to not know that...
