Well, whatever, Bear.
If you just want to bitch about something, go ahead and bitch.
This bypass is part of a long standing project to make a 4 lane divided highway all the way from El Dorado to Little Rock, and the route doesn't need to come directly through the middle of town.
ETA: And fully half of that traffic that 'doesn't know how to drive' through Sheridan is not local traffic, it's folks like you passing through according to the highway department.

It's worthless because it wasn't needed. Sheridan, like most all of South Arkansas is shrinking in size. I've driven through Sheridan many a time and only recall once having to wait on school buses to get onto the road by their school.
Meanwhile 412 has needed by-passing of Springdale for about 30 years and 540 has needed a bypass at Bella Vista for about as long.
The state leg does give a lot of attention to the small town areas of the state, which is good in theory. Its kinda stupid, though, when you see legit needs like the ones in NWA, while small town legislators get stuff passed like "we need a four-lane road connecting every town of 5,000 people in the state". Good country folks, I get it. But NWA has gotten the shaft for road funding for years, considering how much tax revenue this area generates.

I'm pretty sure the Sheridan bypass had more to do with planning for an interstate extension and the mythical I-69.

You have to come to terms with the fact that Sheridan, like most towns in South Arkansas, is not worth defending, my hometown included. They are what they are. Like WMR just mentioned, Sheridan is pretty low on the list of places in Arkansas that are in need of a bypass. Sheridan traffic is an issue at two times: deer season and when they shut off the road for the school buses. That's it. Otherwise it is at most a 5 minute inconvenience.

We're practically subsidizing the rest of the state.

I-69 is planned from Shreveport to Memphis, 167 could be considered a connector from Little Rock to I-69 in El Dorado, but it will never be an Interstate.
I-530 is being extended to connect with the planned I-69 near Monticello. Part of the extension from Pine Bluff to Star City has already been opened.

The fact that people in Sheridan are such horrendous drivers that they need three stop lights on a freaking bypass.
I grew up in East Arkansas, have grandparents from South Arkansas that I visited all the time, lived in Central Arkansas for 5 years, and now live in NWA, and I'll shout from the rooftops that Northwest Arkansas unequivocally has the worst drivers collectively that I've ever seen.
I don't know if it's because there are so many northerners here or what, but people around here can't...fricking...drive.

I've driven all over the state, and a fair amount of the country and I don't think Sheridan drivers are any worse than most anywhere else.
I'm suspecting Bear is just bored and wanting to stir some shite a little.

As a peace offering, I will say something nice about Sheridan. Y'all have a yummy Subway and the people there are nice to me.
ETA: I will also add a criticism. The stoplight at the intersection of Gum and Rock is almost as stupid as the bypass.

I-69 has been talked about for nearly 30 years and it's still not happened.
The AHTD is about as stupid as bricks and is basically a good ole boy network.
The purpose of putting up cable in the medians here 1 year ago was retarded. The fact it cost nearly two million is stupid. Taking them up one year later is fricking retarded and a waste of my money.
I understand southern folks want a 4 lane all the way to their shopping and all in Little Rock. I bitched for years when I would drive from here to south Arkansas to see family. BUT, Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, and Bentonville have South Arkansas sized roads......with 500k-550k people trying to get some place. shite isn't working.
It's a damn nightmare on 540 a lot of the day because it's the only main route any place up here. I hate 540, as do most people here. Problem is, the small back roads are getting just as cluttered now because people try to avoid the 540 shite stain. It's a shame really.
People across most of the state think NWA folks are an entitled bunch. We'll, if the state would give us our fair shake at funding, maybe we wouldnt turn our nose up at anyone. There is no reason any school in this state should be out for more than a day after a snow storm of 4 inches. It happens all the time up here because the state claims we don't have funding for salt and a prepping mix. If you travel up to the state line a few miles, it's down right embarrassing at what Missouri can do and has done during a winter storm.

You ever drive it in late October and in November. Half the state rolls through that town every Friday and again on Sundays

Yeah, now that the through traffic will be cut in half, it makes less sense. A lot of traffic does travel that street (Gum) though, one side leads to the post office, the other side leads to one of the bigger employers in town, Koehler.

Worth a trip. Get there early while they're hot. And avoid imitators in other towns called spud nuts. Not the same.
