How would you rank the SEC states in regards to how "Southern" they are?

1. Mississippi
2. Alabama
3. South Carolina
4. Georgia
5. Louisiana
6. Arkansas
7. Tennessee
8. Florida
9. Texas
10. Kentucky
11. Missouri

I live in Georgia. Don't get me wrong, some places are nice. But places like Rome, for example. That's not southern. It's mostly trashy. Depends on what you classify as southern. Going to a mud bog, cracking open a beer , putting a dip in and chilling by a Bonfire? We do that a lot.. Is that how you classify it ?

Florida is definitely not more southern than Texas or Kentucky.

Missouri is last by default though, I agree.

Should be 14. It took 7 years of living here to find good bbq and it was only because a guy moved here after living in various places in the south learning how to make it correctly.

Kind of a trick question. Are we talking about the Florida Panhandle or South Florida? East Texas or West Texas?

South Florida = Northeast yankee types
West Texas = Midwest yankee types

In no world is GA above SC in "southernness."

1. First shots of the Civil War - Fort Sumter, SC
2. The Citadel
3. Charleston > Savannah
4. NCAA won't come to Columbia, will go to ATL
5. ...GA has ATL, which is South Harlem.
6. Bojangles > Chic Fil A
7. SC's 2nd biggest school is an AG school, GA's is for nerds who build Iron Man suits.
....the list is infinite.

If you take out Philly and compare your list's of what you do/don't have Pennsylvania should be around 6/7 on list.

Florida may not be more southern than Texas, but they are more southern than Kentucky. Texas and Florida were among the first seven states to secede from the Union; Arkansas and Tennessee were among the last to go, with Kentucky remaining in the Union.

This is a dumb way to determine how southern a state is.

No. There are more yankees in Atlanta than in the entire state of South Carolina.

what is "southerness"? I think you would have to say folk with scott irish heritage, protestant, make their own whiskey and eat everything fried then I would have to say south Louisiana is not southern.

I disagree. I rank the southernness of states by order of secession. It only makes sense:

1. South Carolina
2. Mississippi
3. Florida
4. Alabama
5. Georgia
6. Louisiana
7. Texas
8. Arkansas
9. Tennessee
10. Missouri
11. Kentucky

Missouri was more effed up and divided than Kentucky during the Civil War, so they are a little more southern.
