Dude, sometimes I wonder about you.
Athletics is viewed positively by the faculty as long as it places the University in a positive light. It's a university, not a professional sports club. If athletics helps market A&M to prospective students, grad students, and helps them foster relationships and get research grants, they are going to be very very pro-athletics.
If athletics is casting the entire university in a negative light, they will flat out be adversarial and that's not good for anyone. This shouldn't be tough to understand.
