“I’ve heard it said that if you know English, Spanish, Italian, and I think it’s French, you can go just about anywhere in this world…except for China where they have all those derelicts.” (5/19/02)
The quote about derelicts in China was followed (after a pause) by Joe Buck’s suggestion that Mike had meant to say “dialects.” Mike’s response was,”Yea, dialects! That’s what I mean. But they’ve got a lot of derelicts too!!”

That's classic stuff man.
"The pitcher throws the ball to the umpire and asks for new one. Normally the ump would give that tainted ball to the ball boy, but he just inspects it and puts it back in his ball sack."

Had read another one where he described a foul ball that landed in a lady's beer as:
"And the ball landed right in the ladies Busch!"
Now imagine hearing that on the radio.

All the talk radio here is saying Peavy trade imminent.
Posted on 7/8/14 at 1:50 pm to reedus23
If you're going to get a pitcher, go big. Peavy is injury prone. He's in the twilight. He's old. Hasn't been worth a damn since he left San Diego.
No. Do not want.
He might make the middle relief, though I guess his experience could make him our #2. He's one of those guys that if we still had Duncan, I'd think he could re-ignite his 15 year career. We don't have Duncan.
I sure as hell don't want to give up any name prospects. Give them Mateo and a player to be named later. Yeah, not happy about this. Hope the radio guys here are wrong, which they are a lot.

Anyone still believe in Miller?
Guy should've been traded when he had future ace value. Guy has absolutely zero secondary stuff to go with a pretty normal fastball. It's not rocket science, guy is incapable of learning to throw secondary stuff and his fastball isn't the flame it was hyped to be.
Mo gave the biggest free agent contract in franchise history of anyone that hadn't already worn a Cards jersey to a guy that has hit around .240 the majority of the last 5 years. Pure insanity that Cards fans didn't lose their minds over that signing.
Signed
Matt Holliday's great career numbers and bulging forearms

No the man has been pedestrian at best and I think he has an additude problem. Plus the guy gives up too many walks.
Is anyone else on suicide watch after hearing about yadi? He is the glue that keeps us together IMO

Miller would be the one I would hope we could package in a trade. Frankly, I'm more of a Lynn fan at this point and that's saying a lot because I never much cared for Lynn as a starter.
Yadi is still soaking in for me. Not even sure what the hell we do.

From talking with you before, seems you follow baseball pretty close and had a pretty strong grasp on guys who have come out of Missouri high schools. Do you happen to subscribe to PerfectGame or any of the services?
If so, I am curious about where a few guys fell in the rankings that are coming into Mizzou.
Bryce Montes de Oca
Tanner Houck
Shane Benes
Still holding my breath a little with de Oca and Houck not signing with the White Sox (14th round I believe) and Toronto (12th round I believe) respectively, but am curious where they fell according to perfect game.
I know according to the MLB draft board, de Oca was like 73, Benes was maybe 137 and Houck maybe 117, but I don't know how good that list is to be honest.

I have never heard of perfect game.
I haven't been following high school ball like I have in the past. Nowadays, I'll keep an eye on the junior colleges like JeffCo, Crowder, Maple Woods and the rest of that conference. There are some great players that come out of those schools.
Those three players that you mentioned look like the real deal on paper. Anyone that playing on the Prospects is typically badass. I would be pumped about adding them to the roster!
I will say the shitty thing about baseball is the amount of politics involved. So you never know what connections the kid has. How much is hype and how much is real.

Miller is still young. These things take time.
Take a look at Lynn, he was just as difficult to watch as Miller is, and he's showing signs of finally figuring it out.
I'm liking where this team is headed. The fight is coming back, even if they had lost tonight, I like the battle back mentality.
Still, this is a young team, there will be monumental ups and debilitating downs.

I don't remember this. Lynn was pretty good right away out of the pen.
Miller has an okay fastball with no other pitches. They've been trying to teach him secondary pitches for the last 5 years with basically zero progress.

They're still my unbiased pick to win the division. Brewers have been average for the last couple months, Reds have more problems than we do, and Rats don't seem to be as potent as last year.

There's a reason they call it "The Lynning".
There was always an inning where he would give up walks, collapse, and then look like he did not want to be out there.

So did Cards pitchers give up all of the runs in the All Star Game?
Posted on 7/16/14 at 8:33 am to reedus23
Looked it up. Yepp. Waino - 3 runs. Neshek - 2 runs.

Matt Holliday's dramatic forearm across the forehead pose while sitting down after that 'collision' today solidifies my eternal disliking of the guy. What a vajayjay.
