My doofus little brother lives in Rockford and is a UT graduate. Yesterday he finally said what I've been thinking that he was thinking: "I like college basketball more than college football these days." He pointed out how college basketball season is way longer than the college football season and how the March Madness tournament is so much more awesome and exciting than the bowl season.

At that point I realized that Tennessee really is a few more Sweet 16s and a few more crappy football seasons away from being a basketball school... another Kentucky, basically.

* Both are lucky to win three conference games a year in football.

* Both are always looking for "improvement" and "building blocks" and moral victories in football. A trip to the 2014 Music Compass Pizza Bowl would be celebrated as improvement and a building block heading into next season. For either program.

* Both have a big-arse basketball arenas and a bunch of gray-haired hillbillies swearing oversized sweaters at the games.

* Both have bad high school football.

...At some point, when your football program has a stretch of prolonged misery and suffering as Tennessee, fans will look forward to something else to cling to. It's only natural. Fans need something to cheer about. After all, Missouri and Texas A&M have more SEC conference victories than Tennessee in the last four years. So does Vanderbilt. Only KENTUCKY has fewer.

If Coach Martin keeps the b-ball team strong for a few more seasons, and after Butch Jones proves to be a fraud full of corny euphemisms and desperate motivational tactics, Tennessee's battle cry in football really will be...

"Well, wait until basketball season."

Just like Kentucky. It really is amazing how quickly things can happen!

Everyone with a shitty football team will obviously say that.

Oh and are you intentionally doing your sig line wrong?

4 straight losing seasons can do that.

MLB
College Hoops
College Football
NBA
NFL
College Baseball

This is probably how I would rank my interests, although I do recognize that the NBA and NFL are superior products to their college counterparts.

Tennessee fans are a lot more bearable when they are bad at football. I am ok with this trend.

Except one school has the biggest stadium in the SEC...bigger than UGA's, for example...and the other one is actually downsizing theirs.

Terrible comparison.

Also, I'm glad we're good at basketball. At least we aren't UGA and are pretty much shitty at both.

So you're saying you were out-recruited by Kentucky in football this year?

A uga fan calling one of the most tradition rich schools in all of college football a basketball school while Tennessee has more National Titles and Wins than uga lol.... Following that blind mule in the desert starting to take a toll on you lol....

TN owns uga historically in football lol. This is nothing more of sour grapes from having no basketball team and a football program following a mediocre never gonna win big football coach. Uga is a pathetic school and athletic program. Carry on.

So they're dangerously close to winning multiple championships in a Big 3 sport?

Man, that must suck.

Actually Tennessee high school football is improving very quickly. It is much much better than kentucky high school football and has always produced more talent.

And who needs Tennessee when we can pull top prospects out of georgia.

It's the 90s all over again. This time Florida and Tennessee decided to run basketball instead of foosball. We're mixing it up.
