Any chance of moving it back or forward by one week?

I don't care. May 4th does seems like a long way off. But, then again, it would be fun to do it on that date because of the Talladega race though.

Cancel your plans. I mean, what could you possibly have planned that trumps an e-rib-off with total strangers on the internet??

Get your priorities straight.

Jefferson, do the ribs have to be presented in real time, or could I record my rib preparation and presentation the previous weekend and then post here on May 4th? I'm trying to negotiate a time conflict as I will be out of town the weekend of the rib off.

EDIT: I would certainly change my plans for ANYTHING except this.

Sounds fine to me.

You may be at a disadvantage though. Things may develop in the real-time rib-off..............allowing for competitors to make adjustments and strategize against what other cooks are doing.

Serious question, do people just read the recipe and then see the pick to decide the winner?

No. That would be boring as frick.

This is not a recipe contest. The recipe is the same for everyone: Pork Ribs.

Pork ribs will be the blank canvas for them to apply their methods, rubs, sauces, techniques and secrets in order to turn them into a work of edible art: This is called bbq.

Pictures as well as insights to their methods, philosophies, and descriptions of what they are doing, etc, etc.......are encouraged from each cook. Christopher may even be cooking on a rock. I don't know. shite could get weird.

That's a recipe imo, but too each his own.

It's your contest, but maybe if they each had a thread and blogged about it as they were making it might be the way to go. If you've already discussed this then I apologize.

Well. I think going with a judges panel is definitely the way to go now. I don't think some people are capable of grasping what we're trying to do here.........

Competitors, Do you want select judges or do you want everyone to be allowed to vote for a winner? If we did judges-panel, we could find out who wants to be judges, and then we could have YOU, the competitors, vote on who you want to be the judges. Then, the judges panel can score each of the submissions.........we add up the numbers.......and announce a winner.

Or we could let whoever wants to vote, be allowed to vote. And have to answer a million stupid questions along the way.

Personally, I think a judges panel would be the best way to achieve our goal here. Which is determining a Rib-off Smack-down Grand Champion.

Less chance of it being rigged if it's open.

You're butting in on page 4 with "advice" that everyone understands but you...... and that was covered in the original post.

It's very awkward.

Deeprig is for open judging. What do the other *competitors think?

If it's open voting, i'd prefer it look similar to the old county unit system. Higher concentrations of asphalt farmers could be difficult too sway without fancy cutlery.
