Where is DamnGoodDawg's enrollment application??....
Usually, politicians love these kind of opportunities to pretend like they can relate and/or give a shite about the "peasants" they lord over.......

Ignorance. You haz it.

900 dollars worth of ceramic makes bbq more convenient, but it doesn't make it better.

Maybe, maybe not. But losing 'style points' because of the type of cooker you have?
It's all about the end result. I've grilled turkey legs over an open pit dug in the Michigan dirt with a short handle shovel, and I now do a lot of grilling over oak lump charcoal in a Big Green Egg. And I've done just about everything in between.
Regardless of the method, the only thing that matters is the final product, not the method or the cost of same. Period.

Its a crutch. You might as well put your ribs in the oven, wrapped in foil, after you boiled them.....covered with liquid smoke.
Real men use metal grills and smokers.......
....and don't use the word "haz" in a sentence.

Perhaps to you...but for some of us its also about the journey...

Sounds like you're overcompensating for something.

You actually have a point here.

Screw that with a rusty pinecone. It's about getting best possible BBQ.
"about the journey".
If it's about "the journey" go take a trip. In reality, it's about making the best possible BBQ.
Style points? Geez.

Yall got lucky this time. I just moved to Macon and we can not have smokers at the town house we are renting.
So, I gave my smoker to AmericusDawg.
Good news for all the competitors is you now might have a chance at winning this thing since I'm not competing.
Well good luck to everyone and enjoying the good eating and beers.

The Rib-off is still over a month away, though. And enrollment doesn't close until the week before the cook, so there could be more...........
Note to Chowderpops & Atlantans: The only requirement is that the pork ribs be cooked out of doors under the sky, so getting an extension cord and dragging your microwaves out back would technically qualify you for the Rib-off if you want in. Think about it. Thanks.

I hear ya
All I'm saying is that I'd have to award some extra points to somebody who achieves awesome results with a leaky POS metal offset fire box....because I know from personal experience that they busted their arse for hours on end to hold temp and get everything to come out right. From what I hear, the Egg just sits there and bakes for days off a half a chimney.
Like I said. I'd love to have one....and would still put it above an electric smoker that uses pellets... (barely)

Squatchdawg and Goldendawg,
Are you two aware that enrollment is still open?
I think you two should settle your differences in the ring..........
What do you say?

I like what you're doing here.
But I've decided to keep myself anonymous on these here interwebs. Besides, I think Squatch and I pretty much agree. He just thinks the BGE is so easy to get solid results on that those that use other methods should get some preferential judging.
I disagree, but I do think it's easier for grilling noobs to get great results on the BGE than the Weber or some such lesser grill.
In this particular competition, though, there will be no noobs, so I don't think it should effect judging.
I wish to heck I could show up just to sample product. I would love that. But I shall not. However, I am looking forward to the pics and wish everyone the best of luck, even the bug.

Any chance of moving it back or forward by one week? If so, I'm in. And I will own you all with a basic grill, some apple wood, and a spray bottle.

This is Brilliant! A Rib-off cooking contest where the people who are judging the contestants can't even taste the product. Genius!

I enjoy a good barbeque and have been upping my game but between rb's back woods, pecan and apple hardwood smoking rig and Chris threatening to cook his ribs on rock or sheet metal - I know when I'm outmatched.
Also, Golden obviously has game to invest that kind of coin on an egg. I'd definitely be bringing a knife to a gun fight.

You're right. I am leaning more towards having a select jury panel to judge the final products.....instead of just letting any yahoo like yourself vote.
It might not be fair to have these competitors get judged by the unimaginative.....where it might just end up turning into a popularity contest or something...... I thought it would be fun to get everyone involved. But, oh well.
Effort, process, technique, creativity, Philosophy, knowledge, presentation, etc. This will be what the judges base their vote on. Basically, which one of the competitors ribs they would like to try first. If they had that opportunity.
