I'm excited to see what Mastro looks like in an actual game now. Heard nothing but good things about him throughout Spring practice.

while I feel ya, who else is there even? Wiggins is the only other safety besides those 4 on the roster.

And Deshazor seems to think Matthews looked really good this spring. His comments about Raven were....less enthusiastic

Let's hope Donovan Wilson, Nick Harvey, or Armani Watts can play FS.

Yup. Deshazor's comments are at least sorta encouraging, though. If I had to pick one of Matthews/Raven that I preferred to click, it would be Matthews. We at least have more potential options at FS than SS.

You think they're going to play RSJ at Z? I thought he had been practicing this spring as an inside reciever?

he's mostly practiced at Z. It really came down to who they want on the field and they seem to be dead set on Quiv out there. Kennedy has played and is comfortable at the Y and Quiv simply isn't strong enough to play outside. RSJ has also practiced in the slot as a TE. So they are definitely putting a lot on him right now. But unless someone emerges in fall camp, RSJ is the likely starter at Z.

Last year they talked about moving Evans around but never did (bc who would play outside?) but for the first time under Sumlin, pretty much all the receivers will have a bit of experience in the system. Think we may see a bit more rotation and some mix and match.

I think Wilson is going to start off at SS, Harvey at FS, and Watts at CB. It's just a guess though. If someone is showing out, I'm sure they'll get a shot at what they consider our weakest spot on defense right now (Free).

What are you hearing on how much we're going to use Cam Clear, and in what capacity?

It's hard to say just yet.

I think we'll see a bit more of this package. If you watch that series from there we do a little PA with Hicks. We also screened Hicks out wide at some point but I don't have time to review and find. Kliff had a lot of wrinkles to that and that package became our short yardage grouping from that point on.

One reason we got away from it was simply because neither Nemo or Clear had great hands and neither were downfield threats. Watch Hicks in that set though and he breaks out wide on the PA (if the play goes on he should wheel). Arkansas ran with him but defenses began adjusting to Johnny's tendency to run rather than look short and really just stop assigning men to the flares.

But that package opens up screens (and double screens) and you can get some real mismatches out of it. The PA out of it also opens up the Post/Deep Cross from the Z and if they get caught looking, could open up the 9-route/skinny post from the X. It's really very challenging from a QB that will just take what they give. I think we'll see more of it this season.

Does Obioha really get bumped that far down?

not really that far down. He's 2nd team I just listed him 3rd. Maybe I should have ORd him with Stansbury but I think Gavin will start.

A lot of people were high on Obioha going into last year but he moved to SDE and kind of plateau'd from the 2012 campaign. I still think he could be a really good player for us. Daeshon Hall was hurt all spring but I have high hopes on him being a lot better with a full year of expirience under his belt too.
