Honestly, it depends on how old you are.

I smoked all through college, getting up to as many as 2 packs a day by the time I was a senior. I was not a social smoker, I was a legitimate chain smoker. I also smoked all through graduate school (2 more years) and then quit cold turkey right after graduation.

It was mostly psychological -- I was of the "I'm in college, this is fine" mentality, which then bled into grad school. After that, I didn't have an excuse. I really never had a problem with it and still don't.

Regardless of age, you have to substitute it with something else. I joined a gym and started going every day, which served as a much healthier substitute than some people turn to.

Don't get me wrong I was a chain smoker I'm 26 been smoking since I was 16. What I mean by socially was that I'm in the military so seems like I'd smoke come back and a friend was like hey man I'm gonna go smoke, then go back out and smoke again. I think I used to base it a lot to of hey of I get this done I'll go smoke. I've always wanted to quit just don't like the typical going to start or stop something on a date. I just ran out the other day and decided it was time. But again don't want to fail so that's why I've been putting a few pinches of dip in. Pretty motivated to kick it.
