Because I was a kid, I liked the way he shot the ball, and I found him exciting. Deal with it, pal.

I guess the last time Bama basketball was really exciting for me, Gerald Wallace was on the floor. That wasn't a GREAT team, but they were fun. I didn't realize how long it had been since he was at Bama. Apparently this is the only photo of him in a Bama uniform left on the internets.

He averaged 15, 6 and 2 for his career. He didn't shoot exceptionally well for a two guard, but there were times when he would completey take over a game offensively. Same way Releford has had to do for us this season. I remember he went nuts one night in the SEC Tournament and we blew out Tennessee. He hit six or seven three's, man that was fun to watch. That was close to 15 years ago now.

If I remember correctly he had a pretty disappointing senior year (or junior year, whichever was his last) and then that Tennessee game happened.
Even the best Gottfried teams were frustrating as hell, but he did have some good years. I don't want him back, I just want a new coach all together.

Earnest Shelton and Kennedy Winston were fun to watch too.

Hale reminds me a little of him, not at the same level as Winston but some similarities.

It was his junior year. His numbers dipped a little, but the team around him was better too. Shelton, Pettway, Dudley etc. We were a 2 seed iirc and got bounced by Kent State.
ETA: Antonio Gates was on that Kent State squad and they went to the Elite 8.

Pretty solid comparison imo.

It was a long time ago, but if I remember correctly, I think he had close to 30 in the first half? I swear that game was during the day and my dad had checked me out of school so I could watch the game. I just loved how he could get hot, the headband, the way he shot with one shoulder pointed toward the basket. There were a lot of players from those times that I loved. Him, Shelton, Dudley, Pettway, Emmitt Thomas, etc.

ATLANTA - Rod Grizzard scored 33 points to lead Alabama to a 91-72 win over Tennessee in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament before 20,427 in the Georgia Dome.
Grizzard scored 27 first-half points, connecting on 10-of-17 from the field that included six three-pointers, to lead the Crimson Tide to a 49-29 halftime advantage. Led by Grizzard's hot shooting, Alabama led by as many as 22 points during the first half.
With Alabama leading 22-17 at the 8:15 mark, Grizzard scored the Crimson Tide's next 20 points during a 20-5 run that broke the game wide open.
"We got hit by an unbelievable individual performance by Rod Grizzard today," said UT head coach Buzz Peterson. "He was in a zone. He didn't have that kind of game against us earlier this year against us. Going into the game, we wanted to minimize Alabama's touches inside because they were only hitting about 28 percent of their three's. If they were going to beat us, they were going to have to do it from the outside."
Someone please find video from this game

I remember being a student and attending the midnight madness style open practice when Wallace debuted. It was a great turn out because everyone wanted to see him and he put on a show with some incredible dunks. I doubt we've had an open practice with that much excitement since.
