I think you missed his point he was simply saying there are many other SEC fans )Ole Miss for example) who bash New Orleans culture, yet root for the Saints

I guess I did since that is not what he said. New Orleans "culture" is very different than cajun culture in my opinion.

Just out of curiosity, what is the cajun influence that is sopprevalent in New Orleans? I'm not saying that their is none, but I am curious what some of you mean by that.

Considering I grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, it was pretty darn common to hear that. Especially now that the Saints are popular again.

Too bad this is 90% of the fanbase.

It's acceptable if a fan of The Dynasty wants to cheer for an NFL team (just not necessary). I don't understand why they would choose that one or any NFL team with the product on the field in Tuscaloosa.

Cajun and Creole music, food, and language share a great deal, particularly through their shared French origins, but they do have their distinctive properties, helping to give New Orleans its rich and varied culture.

The Cajun language is primarily derived from French, with a blend of Indian, African, and English thrown in, particularly with terminology originating after the 1630s.

Cajun music is rooted in French folk songs and heavily influenced by African rhythms. It tends to be upbeat to the point of athletic, often with a wild accordion lead.

it's exacty what he said. New Orleans and the cajun culture are nearly identical when it comes to music, food, and language. The quotes above are from here.

Do you think Birmingham could support a NFL team?

Complicated question. Would N. Alabamians show up to watch an NFL game? Absolutely. They had some of the best attendance for USFL, XFL and CFL teams. But realistically there is absolutely no reason for the NFL to put a team in Bham. The market is served by Nashville and Atlanta. Plus there is no way in hell Birmingham/JeffCo could afford to build the stadium necessary,.

Yea it'd be tough to have teams in Nashville, Atlanta, Birmingham and New Orleans.

God forbid though, I bet the Bama fans would finally have someone to root for and could finally get off the Saints bandwagon.

I know a couple guys from NOLA that went to Auburn because they wanted to go out of state, but still kept their LSU fan allegience.

I thought that was weird.

My sister in law went to Ole Miss but she is a huge Bama fan. Both my in laws, my wife and the other sister all went to Bama so I mean she did grow up surrounded by it. Kind of hard to turn off

I suspected the answer I would get would be food.

My in-laws swear that the food in Lafayette is different, not to mention better there than New Orleans.

And using the food example makes Mobile and the coast just as "cajun" as New Orleans.

and let's certainly not forget about Mardi Gras, which was started by Acadians (which is where the word 'cajun' derives from).

quote:

If, as we know it is, Mardi Gras is a deeply community-based and culturally specific event, then it should come as no surprise that Mardi Gras in “Cajun country”, and in Cajun communities across the Gulf Coast, reflects the local Cajun influence. The music will be Cajun in nature (accordions, washboards, fiddles, and the like). And the food will be Cajun, and less Creole-based than in other areas
