Getting Marshall and JJ on the field at the same time.

After the championship game it was talked about how next year we couldn't wait to see JJ at qb. Some even mentioned that Marshall should move to db because he wasn't a great passer. Obviously I have a hard time seeing Marshall losing his starting job and moving him to db isn't going to happen. So the question is what to do with Jeremy Johnson. If we just bring him on on passing downs, it's way too obvious. This has led me to wonder if Gus has a plan to get both on the field at the same time.
Imagine if you will JJ comes in at qb, but Marshall moves to the slot. If Marshall runs the jet sweep, he still has the run pass option like the Iron Bowl. JJ can also keep the ball and be a passing threat in the pocket or run power ala Cam Newton. Obviously it needs some tweaking, and couldn't be an every down play, but it could add a serious passing threat to our already potent offense. Plus it would be fun to watch

I actually thought about something like this. Except instead of the slot have both of them in the backfield. Just change up who gets the snap maybe a read option/PA deal. Hell have Marshall go out for a pass from the backfield.
Doubt it'll happen and it'd only take one turnover for me to be like "frick this tomfoolery" but if it worked it be fun as hell to watch. If you think the SECret is screaming "gimmick offense" now can you imagine what theu would do with 2 QB's on the field at once?

I think its possible JJ could redshirt. Along with White. Pull one when we need them

I was thinking Marshall on the jet sweep because it utilizes his speed and gets him to the edge. He can also throw it if the defense cheats up and lets the receiver go. He could also run a wheel route out of the back field with JJ throwing. If Marshall is the qb we can still run our normal offense and JJ could move out wide and be a big wr as well..
JJ isn't redshirting.. That genie is already out of the bottle. That's why I think Gus will find a way to get both on the field at the same time.

I do not see this happening. I think Gus is a one QB guy. Which I like

I don't think we'll see much of JJ next year either. Like I said in another thread, I think Gus is staging the QB's to where if everything works out, every new QB will be a junior or senior by the time they are a starter.

This^
While I think it would be fun to watch I doubt Gus would do any of the above. Doesn't mean I can't imagine what it would be like though

Normally I think you are right, but Gus burned his redshirt this year. He also said the qb battle in the spring would be interesting. Gus strikes me as a guy who defies conventional wisdom if it gives him an advantage to win. We know Marshall passing woes. I think Gus knows he will need to have a better passing game next year. The problem with running one qb on and one qb off is that it becomes obvious that you are looking to do. Why not develop a package of plays that put them on the field at the same time for a few plays a game?

The concept is great. But for some reason, it never works. I think its about egos and keeping one guy in sync with what is going on
Too many captains.

I don't think it would affect the team anymore than running the wildcat. We have seen JJ come on the field and throw it for a few plays with Marshall on the sidelines as well. If you take the next logical step, why not get them on the field together for a play of two? Marshall still knows he the starting qb, and JJ knows his role too. Now if it was the offense and every down was run this way, it would never work.

I think the defense would just assume Marshall was going to get the ball and tackle him and/or JJ immediately behind the line of scrimmage. I'm not even sure Marshall can block or that you want to risk injuring him attempting a block.

Instead of this it'd be
I was thinking the same thing today too because what if we spend all off season preparing an offense around Nick and he gets injured and now it's JJ but he's more air than read option, can the offense revamp itself or would we lose games?
I was thinking back to 2004 when we said it's not Cadillac or Ronnie Brown, we're going to put both in the backfield and screw with the defense.
Screwing with the defense, figuring out where they were confused, is what Gus is all about.
The only thing is it shouldn't be a QB battle. It should be a system aiming to confuse and the only way it really works is if Marshall develops into a really good passer in the off season.
If they see Marshall only, they'll crash down, if they see JJ they'll think pass, if they see both and know both can throw, then it's RB/Marshall time.
idk but I like it.

No thanks. Let's stick with Marshall on the field and Johnson on the sideline unless Nick gets hurt.

why would you want him to block? Marshall running the jet sweep would just be another way of getting him on the edge to use his speed. He can also be a threat to pass on the same play ala the iron bowl. With JJ at qb on the same play, he also becomes a viable passing option.
It's the offseaon and I'm bored. Plus it helps me not think about Monday night.

I could see Gus bringing in JJ in situations where we're up by a couple of touchdowns, and there's either a quick turnover or 3-and-out for the defense when NM could use a little more rest.

You wouldn't but he might be put in a situation where he has to. I just think it's too predictable that Marshall is getting the ball and if he doesn't it's good to have somebody that can block downfield or protect the QB. Actually it's so obvious you could probably have Marshall in as a decoy for the jet sweep or statue of liberty and go deep but even that might be obvious to somebody that does this for a living.

I heard that.
