Y'all fill me in on Little Rock

I'm certain we'll have this thread again in the fall when the season starts (and probably once or twice in the summer too..), but it is a slooooow day at work today so I'm just trying to pass the time.
I went to the game in 2009 and had a blast. Fayetteville blew me away compared to what I was expecting. Much nicer town than I was expecting, and the stadium is in a hole much like Sanford is. Overall great trip. I wasn't planning on going back this year just due to cost, but since the game is in a location I've never been I kind of have to go now.
Sooo, what's the deal with LR? I understand it is quite different than fayetteville. Will there be a different type of fanbase there? What's the stadium like? Stuff to do around? Should we stay in LR or somewhere else? Is it worth flying, and can I fly directly into LR? What kind of atmosphere will it be compared to fayetteville?

Most of us, well, we don't go to games in LR.
When you go, you'll understand why.

I have never been to a Little Rock game. Couldn't tell you anything about them.

I mean from what I understand it's pretty ghetto, I already have that impression about it. I was just wondering some of the answers to the specific questions in the OP. I'm not expecting it to be awesome, but it's a new venue so I have to go.

The stadium is a dump. As everyone that's ever posted on the sec rant knows due to the shitty threads known as the GSD.
Yes, you can fly directly there.
Stuff to do depends on what you are interested in. I'm old and not a partier. Usually when I'm in central LR I like to kill spare time climbing the East Summit of Pinnacle and make the quick drive to Petit Jean to get in some easy hiking that's refreshing.
As far as bars goes, just stick to the River Market if you are wanting the bar scene. I was there in the summer and someone on here recommended the Argenta area that's across the river in NLR. I actually liked that better b/c there was a place that wasn't crowded with a really nice beer selection. But I'm old and boring and have no problems saying I can go to Little Rock and enjoy myself unlike a lot of the others around here. I care more about getting in my quick climb up the east summit a few times for entertainment
If you're the type of person that can enjoy yourself anywhere you go, then you'll be just fine. I lived in Little Rock for awhile. The only complaints you'll hear from me are about the piss poor retail and restaurant selections. That goes for the whole state, though.

How does it compare to Legion field, for those that have been there?

I'm late 20s and will be with a group of 3-4 others of the same age. As long as we can find a bar and/or a restaurant we'll be fine, so we are certainly not picky.
Our drive to fayetteville was roughly 12 hours, about how long would it be to LR? If we fly in directly how far would we have to drive to the stadium area/hotels?

1. Will there be a different type of fanbase there?
Yes, more redneck than Fayetteville. NTTAWWT, just how it is.
2. What's the stadium like?
Quaint.
3. Stuff to do around?
There's a pretty good zoo right next to the stadium.
4. Should we stay in Little Rock?
Yes, just get a hotel in West Little Rock. It's not a long drive from there to Midtown.
5. Is it worth flying?
You won't get to experience the beauty of the Natural State if you fly.
6. Atmosphere compared to Fayetteville?
See question 1.

I guess I was mistaken, I thought LR was ghetto? I don't mind redneck fanbases, I like em actually. But that's basically the opposite of the impression I had of the place.

I've driven through the state before, once is enough. I'd much rather save time than enjoy scenery.

The GSD is the Great Stadium Debate. A never ending argument between NW Arkansans and the rest of the state about whether or not all games should be played in Fayetteville.

The area around WMS is pretty ghetto but the fanbase that goes to the games is very redneck

the great stadium debate. all of those threads you've seen about the bashing of little rock.
Where are you coming from? I'm only 5 hours from LR right now and I still fly sometimes.
That's a personal choice for you and your friends, but there's no way in hell I'm dring over 5 hours to go ANYWHERE.
I've never been to Legion field, so I can't compare. War Memorial is a dump. Just go in expecting the worst in regards to visual appeal, but enjoy the game all the same.

There are areas around Little Rock that are ghetto, white trash, poor, etc.. etc.. just like any city. There are undesireables wherever you go. I've ran into PLENTY of people I wouldn't dare shake the hand of w/o wearing gloves that can be thrown away in rural NWA.
If you're not some pretentious a-hole that thinks like you're a Highland Parker, you'll be just fine and assuming you guys thrash our asses, you will have a good time.

Parts of it are, but those people don't go to football games. Just avoid Roosevelt and Asher and you won't experience much ghetto. The stadium is in Midtown and that's not a bad area.

Atlanta. I would really, really rather not drive that again. 8 hours is about the farthest I'm willing to drive, and that's only when we go to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl, which obviously isn't like an every year thing. Jacksonville every year for the WLOCP is 5.5 hours so that's manageable. I really don't have interest in driving the 10 hours or whatever to little rock.

edit: there are a million flights between ATL and LIT (I think that's the airport abbreviation), you won't have any problems.
