They probably need the same thing Bama basketball needs, a new coach.

No coach is fine but getting over the apathy that developed during the Trent Johnson years is going to take some serious success

LSU has won the second most SEC championships after UK.

That's not really saying much considering they have as much as the rest of the conference combined.

I love going to baseball games, more so than hoops. Probably just a function of age but the baseball crowds are older, behave themselves better, the atmosphere is always relaxing and enjoyable. Just my take.

Terrible coaching.

Trent Johnson really set the program back.

But I agree, a lot of basketball talent in LA and Texas, we should be better.

With Jones and they way he has been recruiting we will become legit in due time.

One Bball success doesn't come from local recruiting. It has to be on a national level.

Two Florida being elite in the SEC, but still isn't the true national elite. We get a lot more respect then we use to. Even with what can be argued as the most accomplished single class of players ever. Only ranks on most people list in the low 20's as best ever team. Better is reserved for the UCLA's, Dukes and Kentucky's of the world.

Bad coaching hires and probation coinciding with the rise of LSU baseball relegated it pretty far down the priority list in the athletic department.

We're coming back though. Tourney team this year and for the first time since the 05-06 Final Four run we can actually recruit worth a shite.

You should pick and choose you battles a little better buc.

You've been getting toasted on the recruiting front lately, so you poke at basketball?

I'll bite. Sanctions, then a terrible apr meant we needed a guy like Trent to get us back on track.

I really have to thank him, because the program is in great shape now. Now that we have the right man for the job, you see us pulling in multiple top 10 national players, in addition to literally the best juco guards on the market.

Have fun spinning your tires with anthony grant.

Here are the teams CJJ beat out for our last 7 or so bball commits

Ohio state
Louisville
Ucla
Arizona
Duke
Kentucky
North Carolina

Why isn't LSU's basketball program a better respected and more successful program than what it is?

the 90s were terrible for us and then we were up and down in the 00s but mostly down.

This is because of Roy Williams. The probation for roy williams an lester earls lies killed the program. Then because of probation we hired John Brady. He had his up and downs. We got rid of him at the correct time but we made a terrible hire in trent Johnson. I was on board with the hire because of his past success but then he showed he actually couldn't recruit or coach.

We are on the right track now with coaching and recruiting.

Since we were so up and down for so long it takes time to get a crowd back into basketball. The problem was when we were bad with trent johnson we were unwatchable. It was boring untalented basketball with him for the most part.

LSU also does a terrible job of marketing the basketball team. Then to compound the issues it looks like we have no student support because LSU thought the media and the band should go behind the goals allowing the students 1/3 of the lower seats behind the goal. Then that 1/3 section is filled with creeps like Jaycee so no one wants to be seen around them. The rest of the student sections are mid level and up and that is where students sit. We need to move the students back to mid court in one solid block

eta: fwiw I wish nothing but pain and anguish for Roy Williams and Lester Earl. The fact lester Earl has come crawling back to LA poor as can be and begging for forgiveness pleases me to no end. The fact he hasn't found any forgiveness besides daddy dale makes me even happier.

we're doing just fine. It's been a rough ten years or so but we're slowing getting it back

Tigers and Hogs are in the same boat of having historic basketball that have fallen on hard times with the exit of a legendary coach. Tigers vs Cats was a big game from Rabaenhorst through Brown. They were down under McCreary and Truitt so downturns must be expected. The issue is how long they have been down since Brown before it becomes much harder to get back up.

On a side note, they have done well with their W basketball hires. Pokey (was at the UK vs DePaul game last week) and Nikki have the Lady Tigers on the national radar.
