Why isn't LSU's basketball program a better respected and more successful program than what it is?

The program has 2 of the preeminent and easily best players in the SEC historically with Pistol Pete and Shaq and a myriad of other good players who've had good NBA success

And still can't have continued success

I believe La and areas of Tx are just as talented bball wise for a coach who can recruit the area to do very well there, yet they haven't

Is it SEC West? Is it bad coaching? Is it lack of dedication to the bball side? What is it?

They probably need the same thing Bama basketball needs, a new coach.

If the OP had been an LSU fan, I would have pointed to the idea that there is somehow still an SEC West as being reflective of why there is not as strong a program @LSU as one might expect.

LSU fans have spent the last 15 years or so, mostly worshipping at the sports altar of football.

Arkansas had similar WIN TOTAL in the SEC (I won't say success because NCs obviously) and UF has had same success in fball and yet both schools won a championship UF two in bball

OP never excluded it to this year. The SEC West has existed for 99% of SEC Basketball history.

LSU has won the second most SEC championships after UK. Last championship was 2009. Final Fours in 1981, 1986, and 2006 plus one in 1950s and one in 1930s.

Probation, then inconsistency, then a terrible coaching hire. Hopefully we've got things back in place. The future looks bright...but it's looked bright before.

SEC regular season championships - 11
SEC Tourney Championships - 1

Bama and UT both have 8 so that's pretty on par

Still no elite success like they should have though to me like UF

If you would like to know why LSU fell into a pit in the 90's and 2000's look no further than 3 parties.

Lester Earl
Lying assholes in the NCAA.
Scum bag Roy Williams.

LSU is on the way up.

Johnny Jones is the man for the job, and will capitilize on the other teams in his division being stuck in mediocrity.
