on AU to win the NC? I just read that 14 people made an offseason bet at the Las Vegas Hilton sports book at 1,000-1 odds that Auburn would win the BCS Championship.
Even a $10 bet would be looking real good right now.

IDK but I'm up 13k on Auburn this year, and 8 of that is thanks to Chris Davis and 2 of that is thanks to Ricardo Louis.

Legit question Big Sur. Are you or have you considered hedging your bet? For example, you could lay a grand or two on Missouri to win outright. (I know that would be hard to stomach) Then if AU wins, you bet $3-5 thousand on OSU. If Mich. St. wins, you could bet $10,000 or so on FSU in the NC. This way you'd be guaranteed to win money. (I know I haven't included the possibility of Duke winning)
Or do you just let it ride and hope for the best? It seems like a shame not to win SOMETHING from your bet.

I don't want to speak for Sur, but IMO you're devaluing your odds quite a bit by trying to hedge bets.
What do you do under your scenario if you bet 2k against Auburn on Missouri, and they lose. Then you bet 3-5k on OSU, and you lose that. Then you have lost 5-7k to try to protect what, some arbitrary amount from a few hundred dollar bet?
I have done that before by trying to "hedge" bets and it's never worked well for me.

Upon further consideration, if one were to hedge bets at this point, it should not be done on a per game basis.
You'd get the best odds to bet for Nat'l champs now, and the bet you wanted earlier has huge odds.
You could get decent odds on OSU, FSU, UAT, and Mizzou right now. I think you'd be better off looking at who can make that game and place some offsetting bets if you wanted to hedge at this point, but I still think that's a bad idea in general but mathematically sound.

I just threw those amounts out, and they can be easily changed. You aren't really trying to protect an arbitrary amount, you have a potential $50,000 ticket which cost $100. There are several ways to guarantee that you'd make SOME money. It would be nice to at least make enough to pay for an Auburn bowl game trip.

I actually own one of the LVH tickets. I have $5 on Auburn at 1000:1.
I had a $10 ticket at 100:1 in 2010 that paid $1010 for the win. I also had a $10 ticket at 100:1 in 2011 and 2012. Funny thing is I do not buy the tickets, I have a radiologist that I work with that goes to Vegas 4 or 5 times a year and always buys about $300-$400 in future book tickets for various sporting events and gives them away to employees.
I have done very well with him, he bought me the Auburn ticket, I also had Tony Stewart to win the Sprint Cup a few years ago when he won for $25 at 30:1. I had Bubba Watson to win the Masters for $20 at 40:1. I had Butler to win the Final Four for $20 at 60:1 in 2010 when they lost in the finals to Duke so that was a very close call.
In March when he gave me the ticket and he only bet $5 I jokingly asked him if he lost faith

If you have a guy going back to Vegas, you should hedge your bet by taking Mizzou, OSU and FSU to win their games in appropriate amounts. Guarantee you some green

To answer the hedging question, in 2010 I didn't hedge at all. This year since the ticket I have is worth so much more I gave this a lot of thought over the last few weeks as to what I would do if we made the title game. Well we haven't even made the game yet but the odds on us winning have come down enough that I was able to sell half share of my ticket for $500. This sounds like I am giving up a lot but the way I look at it is I have $5 on Auburn at 500:1 which is still crazy value. I now win $2500 if Auburn wins the title and a buddy of mine also gets $2500. He was wanting to bet a few hundred at 4:1 but was able to get a bit more value from me and get them at 5:1 so its a win win.
I almost never hedge unless the value of the ticket is so much. If I owned the $100 at 50:1 I would try and find a way to at least get $1000 out of it if Auburn doesn't win. You would be silly not to and if Auburn wins you would still be winning a substantial amount of $$

So you have 500 in the bank and a potential at 2500 more? Man you hedged the right way
Luck you found a guy trying to get in on that bet

Are these odds a GIANT slap in the face of tOSU? It is basically saying that Auburn has a better chance of winning even though AU needs tOSU to lose for AU to even get a shot.

Thats correct, I get $500 if we don't win the championship and I get $2500 if we do.

OSU 3.5:1-4:1
Auburn 4:1-5:1
Missouri 8:1-12:1
Bama 30:1-75:1
The LVH odds as of yesterday were
FSU 1:3
OSU 7:2
Auburn 5:1
Missouri 12:1
Bama 60:1

A buddy of mine was in Vegas back in July and put $20 down on Auburn to win the national championship.
I want to say he said it was a $4,000 payoff. I'm not sure. I'll have to ask. I told him after he got back "aw I wish I'd known, I'd had you put $20 down for me too." Just for fun.
