Sold. I have begun planning next years summer vacation....just so i can see this. From what I have gleaned from this thread, I will have to bring my own grits. I can get fresh seafood easily there. (maybe that was in the other thread) Miracle Whip sucks hard in every state. I can get some good 'shrooms up there. Have I about covered it, you frickin yankees, eh?

Anyone who eats grits with salt and pepper isn't a true southerner or else they are a transplant to the south and have no clue what is going on.

Or, perhaps their family transplanted to the south generations ago and passed down thru the family the northern "salt and pepper" way to eat grits.

Any true southern old timer will tell you that grits should be eaten one way and one way only:

with Butter and Sugar or Syrup. Sweet grits.

Shut up, Yankee.

Wrong again.

Stop trying to pervert a proud Southern tradition with your ignorant Yankee ways.

Fry you a couple of eggs and keep the yolks runny. Put 'em in your grits and stir 'em around. A little salt and pepper and you're good to go.

I hate when I ask for hot sauce at a restaurant and they bring anything but Datil.

Datil hot sauce is some outstanding stuff. First time I ever had it was at O'Steen's in St. Augustine Beach. Try to pick up some every time I visit the in-laws over that way.

Eh, I eat mine with butter, sugar, and bacon. Born in North Alabama.

Honestly, anyone saying there's a right way to eat grits to be a southerner is trying too hard.

Well, according to true southern old timers...there most definitely is a right and wrong way to eat grits.

Butter and sugar - Right

Salt and pepper - Yankee tradition.

I could see it being a southern tradition if ole grand pappy took them out to the grain silo and picked up some corn and showed them how to properly grind up the corn and serve it properly.

But they don't grow corn in the south. It all comes from Yankee states, likely pre-ground.

Fry a couple of eggs over easy, cover with buttered grits. Add salt and pepper and then put a couple of patties of pure pork sausage on top. Take your knife and fork and chop everything up and mix real well, and then put the knife down and hold your fork in one hand and a homemade biscuit in the other. That's how you eat breakfast grits.

With fried fish it's grits and cheese. Right now it's PepperJack.

Not reading the thread, but I stopped outside of Montgomery at Affle House, put some sugar and butter on my grits, and some woman on her way out said " you ain't from the south are you" really loud, she then laughed at me and left.
