I might be wrong about this, but i believe Bama may have played 3 quarterbacks in that game. Pretty sure Barker was out from the start, Burgdorf started and got hurt or just sucked, Freddie Kitchens played and sucked and finally David Palmer switched to QB and almost brought Bama back after being down 14-0.

They did. And I was wrong about Sherman Williams. He got hurt early in the game, so it was Chris Steger that had all those 0 yard runs.

It was still a major upset as Alabama was the defending national champ who hadn't been beaten in 31 games and LSU was in the middle of a 6 year stretch of wretchedness.

But the MSU game in 1980 was a bigger upset.

I'll agree with this simply because anytime State knocks off a #1 Bama team it's a huge upset.

But State did win 9 games that year so it was hardly a bad State team.

John Bond had quite a few memorable moments at MSU.

The Day Pigs Flew is literally the only day worth remembering of Curley Hallman's entire career at LSU.

It's almost always listed in the top 5 or top 10 whenever somebody bothers to put together a list.

#1 on Chris Low's list is MSU 6, Bama 3.
#2 is the day Pigs Flew.
#3 is Ole Miss 31, National Champs 30.

Is this the '93 game we're talking about? Was Hallman the coach when Jamie Howard threw all the pick 6's against Auburn or was Dinardo coaching by then?

Yes. 1994.

If there was a list of top 10 in game meltdowns in SEC History, that would definitely make the top 5.

6 INTs after jumping out to a 20 point lead.

JP Game of the week.

So are you implying if the stars align correctly and Mississippi State beats Carolina tomorrow morning then it will be the biggest upset in 33 years?

No. He's predicting Rand Paul to beat Hillary in 2016.

Ole Miss had like 10 NFLers on that 2008 squad. Won the cotton bowl. Tebow crying is main reason that is remembered.

ETA: for example A&M beat Bama at Bama last year and won Cotton Bowl.

Those are all intra-SEC games. But what about Mississippi-Notre Dame in 1977? ND won the national championship, and Ole Miss went 5-6.

Yes in the 93 LSU Bama was playing without their starting QB and RB, and Proctor, an all american, actually missed 2 pretty standard field goals. Eventually Palmer was put in as WR and almost lead the comeback anyway.

Any given Saturday the stars can align for or against you I guess. Injuries, fluke plays, tipped passes, crazy turnovers, botched snaps, etc.

Same story with the MSU game in 1980.

Yeah the 94 Auburn/LSU game was hillarious. I remember watching it live and it was like a trainwreck of unbelief.

LSU dominated every single stat in the game by a mile and managed to lose. They gave up something like 140 yards on defense.

Throwing 1 pick 6 is normally the kiss of death, Howard threw 3 I beleive all in the 4th quarter.

LSU could have have taken 3 knees and punted every 4th quarter possession and easily won.

But if you're Curly Hallman, and you got a 20 point lead, and your QB has throw 4+ INT's already, what's your strategy? THROW THE BALL AROUND!

You've heard the term "giving the game away" well, that game pretty much sets the standard

I was on a retreat with a bunch of folks including some Auburn friends. Everyone heard the score of about 28 to next to nothing and assumed it was over. I didn't know we lost until the next day. My sons were both at the game, one of whom was an Auburn student, the other an LSU fan (and UGA grad) who still talks about that game with a wry sense of humor.

In a personal note, on that same day I was attending Homecoming festivities at Troy State, where my sister was enrolled. The Trojans beat Tennessee Tech 52-3. Later that evening, I had some righteous sex with my sister's roommate, a former Junior Miss from Rhode Island, in the front passenger seat
of my '62 VW convertible.

Awesome. Congrats on the sex.,

Thanks.

Back to the OP, not only was this game NOT the biggest upset in SEC history, I don't think this was even the biggest upset in the history of the Bama-MSU series.

That honor goes to the 1996 game, when a 3-6 Jackie Sherrill squad beat a 9-1 top 5 Bama team and made Gene Stallings' arse quit.
