I cared a lot more about football when I was a student.

Our students suck. I am one of them and I can speak for the majority in saying they're arse holes who think fun is more important than Georgia football. fricking pussies.

The problem is the stupid fricking electronic ticket system
You hit the nail on the head. You can't expect every student with a ticket to go to ever single game. And since there is no way to let anyone else use the ticket you end up with a lot of empty seats.

how is Auburn doing in attendance?

Same here. I went to most of the games one year I was a student, but every other year it was only a couple of games. And the tailgating scene then was pretty lame. I doubt I'd go to many games now if I was a student.

Applies to a lot schools now, unfortunately (including my alma mater).
Although, football wasn't as important as posting on TD/SECr at the stadium

I feel like most schools are like that. Only place I went that was different was PSU, they all embraced the shite out of it. Of course now it totally sucks for them and they have had all the joy of PSU football siphoned from them but I admired them, we were always filling up the student section at least an hour before kick off and it was always full. They had a way bigger student section than UGA too.
But they used paper tickets and I can say having used both the electronic system is stupid. Absolutely stupid.
I also wish UGA punished missing games AND getting in late and they did so strictly. I know an arse hole that got 3 strikes last year and got a ticket. I found out cause he was laughing when UGA denied mine cause I wasn't a full time student so naturally I just said he was a fairy who didn't deserve to go to games. And deep down I think he agrees.

Eh, we used our IDs at MSU. at least I know I wouldn't lose it.

I don't disagree (only missed one game in two years, as I had to be out of town).

Georgia students left empty 39% of their designated sections of Sanford Stadium
This is not news. This is blatantly obvious if you are a Georgia fan.
Problem #1- Student section either doesn't show up or is half empty at kickoff.
Problem #2- The rest of the ticket holders are ancient and tell everyone around them to be quiet.

The tailgating has become so good on most SEC campuses that if it's a non conference game then, "it's mostly about the partying" since it's a for sure win.
We have our own demons with students leaving early

I've liked that at UGA but it makes selling them a huge pain in the arse. And you bone your ID or lose it friday night you're friggin hosed.

It's needed IYAM.
Btw, I love the MSU student section not leaving during the storm recently and Izzo having to talk them in and then get some 1 on 2 time with some co eds
Wanted to go to MSU for an away game while at PSU but I left that place too soon

We have the same issue that everyone else is having.
We have bars, tailgating, and HD tvs.

Plural "bars", so a second one opened in Auburn?
Just messing, look forward to heading over there in November.

I think moving the freshman to the upper deck was a good decision for us. It stops the overcrowding of the lower bowl while pretty much guaranteeing a seat for everyone with a ticket. Unfortunately certain groups like to leave early and leave certain sections close to empty. For the record, I stayed until the end of the last game and I plan on doing that for every game.

Yeah...I went to every game(for at least a half) as a student but I don't blame students for not giving away their tickets for nothing.
The only problem they had with paper tickets was that it put non students in the section...guess that wasn't better than having nobody there.

Alabama coach Nick Saban wrote a flattering letter last week in the student paper to recruit students back.
I did not know this until now.
And the letter is actually quite nice -- he doesn't berate the students at all.

Bryant-Denny Stadium is one of the toughest places to play in the country because of the atmosphere our students and fans help create. You make a huge difference in terms of how our team responds each Saturday. Sometimes the result of a game may come down to a single play, and we all have a role in what the result of that play may be. You have an impact, whether it is the noise on third down when the opposing team has the ball, or the energy you provide for the players when we try to win the fourth quarter.
We have some very exciting home games on the schedule this season, starting this Saturday and then next weekend for a night game against a Top 25 team in Ole Miss. Both games are on national television, and people around the nation will be watching to see how we perform on the field and also taking note of the atmosphere we have at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
