wow, so much ignorance in one sentence. I didn't realize similar people meant people of the same skin color. get your head out of your arse, this is embarrassing to the university. the only reason you designated race to particular sororities is bc of the majority but that does not merit an exclusive white label

Why is it ok to have black sororities, but not white ones?

Why should there be white exclusive or black exclusive anything?

Miss Black America
Jet Magazine

or exclusively male of exclusively female anything?

We can go on and on.....none of it is right. but to criticize ONLY white/male is just as wrong, isn't it?

You are racist if you have a white only, but it is ok to have a black only?

I wish there were no exclusively white, black, male, female anything.

I am NOT arguing for White Sororities or white anything...OR black sororities or anything. Nobody gets anything special and nobody gets excluded for anything. Well, men and women restrooms should remain separate!

Of course it does. It means people of the same skin color. It means people from the same country. It means a lot of things. go to a foreign country. if you run into a fellow U.S. citizen are you not drawn into a conversation? My wife and I went to italy and ran itno some fellow Americans. we stopped and talked to them for 45 minutes or so. It's not like we couldn't talk to other Americans when we got back home. but you are naturally attracted to other people of similar backgrounds.... socio-economic, ethnic, religious....if you are in another state far from your own, and run into someone from your state, you stop and talk for awhile. It's just the way we are made. It has nothing to do with race or anything. It's just that we are drawn to others we have things in common with. Race just happens to be one of those things.

The biggest hypocrit (Jackson) calling out hypocrisy. Shocking I tell you.

Wonder how much money he can parlay out of this little rant.

Holy fricking frick! Where do you people come from? Seriously.

Let me break it down for you Adolph:

1. Black frats and sororities were founded out of necessity. They weren't allowed in the "white" ones.
2. Same for the historically black colleges.
3. Anyone can join a black frat, sorority, or historically black college. Want proof? Turn on the MEAC baseball tournament this year. Most of the teams are white because black kids don't play baseball.

The sororities in question WANTED to let the black girl in and were told by alumna and University advisors that they couldn't. This story broke because the sororities told the press.

The sororities are "white" because the racist, pieces of shite that run them have kept them that way. Discrimination at a PUBLIC university. That's a violation of state, federal, and the Panhellenic laws.

Now, is there some reverse discrimination that goes on in the black community? Absolutely. However, that's not justification.

True. But why have they continued to stay largely segregated? Even here in Louisville it's very rare to see a white girl in a black sorority. And I know girls who have rushed who were denied a bid because they weren't "black enough". Where's the outage in that?

That said, my bigger question is did they go to the University itself first? The admin seem supportive of the girls (now I'll admit this could just be outwardly to avoid controversy). I'd honestly like to know if they did or did they just jump to the "lets get Jesse here" business.

There are a ton of wealthy black females from influential families that identify more with Caucasians than African Americans.

I agree on both actually. The greek system is about tight bonds and if the majority didn't want someone in their sorority then let it go. Where are the people defending the poor fat girls that didn't get accepted into some of the houses? I am sure that there are plenty of them.

Its not a violation of law because sororities are private institutions seperate from the public university. Its a social club which has criteria to get accepted.. These exist nationwide. I'd love to be a member of Bohemian Grove but I can't yet I'm not butthurt about it. There are social clubs for red haired people, I have brown hair so I couldn't get in. Its a fact of life that you aren't accepted everywhere and this goes for everyone. This is just another example of black people screaming racism because their massive inferiority complex leads to extreme butthurt anytime they don't get exactly what they want. Tough fricking shite

Guilt by association?

Isn't that what racists do - judge an entire race based on the selective negative actions of a few?

Race only matters to racists, congrats on showing your true heart.

You are an idiot.

II. Fall Formal Recruitment Eligibility
a. A woman is eligible to participate in Fall Formal Recruitment and join a sorority if she is enrolled at The University of Alabama as a full-time student. A full-time student is defined as taking twelve (12) credit hours per semester, excluding correspondence courses and courses at other universities. A woman is also only eligible to participate in Formal Recruitment if she has not been an initiated member of any National Panhellenic Conference sorority. If a woman receives a bid from a sorority, she must wait a full calendar year before she is eligible to participate in Formal Recruitment. She must meet all University and NPC eligibility and registration requirements to participate in Formal Recruitment.
b. Any woman that graduated from high school before the Spring prior to Fall Formal Recruitment will be eligible to participate in recruitment as an Upperclassman, unless she provides evidence to the Panhellenic Council that she has not attended any University during the year following her high school graduation—meaning she should not have received any sort of college credit during this time.
c. Pertaining to the Panhellenic Approved Spring Weekends, a Potential New Member shall also be defined as any high school senior (grade 12) or anyone who intends to go through Formal Recruitment in the coming year.
d. A Potential New Member must also register for Formal Recruitment with the Alabama Panhellenic Association and pay the recruitment fee in order to participate in Formal Recruitment.
e. The NPC fraternities do not discriminate in membership selection practices on any basis prohibited by law.

UA Panhellenic Bylaws

The kids in the sorority WANTED to let the black girl in. However, old alums and racist university advisers wouldn't allow them to do it. They violated their own fricking laws. What don't you people understand about this? It isn't that fricking hard......

No, they violated rules of basic human decency, which has always been a hallmark of Greek culture anyway.

You're embarrassing yourself with your lack of understanding about the meaning of the word "law".

Since when do they have any control over a Sororities' decision?

That's all part of the greek system. The chapter alums carry quite a bit of weight, allowing the racism inherent in that culture to continue in an era where most of the rest of the world has moved on.
