(not trying to troll UGA, I think we go 11-1 and lose to UGA this year) Just want to know if anyone can think of another huge loss by a team that had a legit shot of making the championship. I can't think of a single instance where a contender has had a loss like that in recent memory.

Congrats on the moral victory.

It happens every year to someone who starts out in the top ten with 'contender' status.
You haven't done anything special.

It was pretty weird for UGA to get beat that badly and yet be one game, 10 yards really, from a NC.

For Auburn, in 2006 after losing to ARK we beat Florida to move back into the discussion, but the UGA crushed us at home including 4 kneel downs with 5 minutes to go. Score was 37-15 but felt like 137 to 15.
BTW, even if we would have not lost that game, we probably would have lost to Florida in a rematch, but it's the best I can come up with for AU in the BCS era.

Arkansas State, led by the gus bus, beat Oregon 31-7 from mid 2nd quarter on, if that counts.

#4 FSU curbstomped #5 AU in 1987 34-6. It was our only loss in 1987.
FSU ended the year #2 behind Miami.

Looks like this thread isn't going how the OP thought it was going to go.

2008
Oklahoma- 65
Texas Tech- 21
Remember, this was the year of the 3-way tie in the Big 12 South. Tech was undefeated going into the game, and had they won, they would've been in the National Championship.

K-State beat OU by exactly the same score in 2004 and OU still got to play for the Natty.
Colorado curb stomped NE 63-36 or something like that in 2001 or so and still got to play Miami for the championship.

Bama beat NC Penn St 42-21 in 1982. Then proceeded to have a suck season in Bear's last year.

If you weren't trying to troll you wouldn't use "curbstomp" in your title. Gfy.

Why do you think SC will lose to the Dawes?

Does Nebraska vs Florida count back in the 90's. Without googling and I may not remember it well but it seems like Nebraska embarrassed florida.

It ended up a solid game score wise at the end...
but in 2008, emerging Alabama took #3 UGA, Stafford, A.J. Green and Knowshon Moreno to town in Athens.

Same as Oklahoma's score in conference championship game yet still played for NC. Nice MV, carry on.

Oklahoma lost to Kansas State by the same score but actually made it to the natty. Are all Lesser Carolina fans 12? Or can they not remember easy history?
