College football fans are totally different. Most of them outside the states of Louisiana and Alabama actually attended at least junior college somewhere. Some even attended the school they root for. The people who are the first to give up going to your favorite schools stadiums because it too much hassle or too expensive are generally the people who have no vested interest in it other than the game.

Does your son hear those stories 8 times a year ? The alumni are the ones who usually have something else in life to do than go watch ULM. People will go to the games, but they are tired of being held hostage to bad matchups with their season tickets. Check the NASCAR TV contract, if you think the networks think it is a fad.
