Choose your Utopian society- 1984 or Brave New World

I'd pick Brave New World, using a line from 1984 "Ignorance is Bliss". When you're ignorant of what's really going on in BNW, you live a leisurely and hedonistic life as opposed to the blatant oppression in the other two. Really this is a question of: would you rather be controlled and know? Or would you rather be controlled but not know?

The only way that I'd pick awareness is if that awareness was of some use. If it were a hopeless situation like 1984, I'd pick ignorance.

Given the two options, I would have to pick A Brave New World (some may say we currently are enjoying some aspects of life just as Huxley predicted).
ETA: I think calling either a utopian society outright misses the opportunity for discussion on the ideas presented in each work.

1984, so I'd have someone to kick in the nutz...course this might be popular in Brave New World so...

Brave New World so that if I resisted I'd get sent to that island of sane people rather than sent to room 101

Maybe we should ask the people at spring break in Panama City next year when they are dance humping each other in front of the webcam.

Not sure which one I'd choose, but 1984 is a better book IMO. That said, I like BNW's story line more, but I'm an Orwell fan and think he presents the topic in a better way if that makes sense.
And, FWIW, Fahrenheit 451 is better than both.

F-451 is very meh. I agree that 1984 had the better storyline but BNW is just badass.

Yeah, we already had a 1984 experiment recently from 1917-1989 and still got a few others going on. There's quite a few Brave New Worlds already also.

I personally think F451 was more easily related to modern society than the other two. Hell we're seeing it happen in a far less overt manner right now.

A Clockwork Orange is a good one too.

Never read it. I've heard good things, and bad things.

Amoral hoodlums, with no particular reason to injure, and their own language/lingo...pretty dead on.

We should just go down the list and classify everyone by the book they are living.

Never lived a 1984 really. I was in Military throughout 80's and read a lot on Soviet Union, formation of the NKVD (precursor to KGB) and so forth. Of course the military has it's own language to cover what's really being said but the USSR had a whole different level.
Lived a 1984 back around mid/late 70's. Don't really remember any of it.
