Why did Steve Spurrier not go back to Florida in 2005?

The job was open and he was available, yet he chose South Carolina. Was Spurrier even offered by Florida?

Always wondered this. I really wish he had gone back. I love watching film of the old Spurrier coached Florida teams.

Spurrier has said that he though USCe was the better job.

ETA: I wasn't there when he said it, so this could be wrong.

Dumbass AD wanted him to "interview". Thank goodness for DAs.

Have you seen the greens at Augusta and Hilton Head? 1.5 hours & 2.5 hours driving time respectively.

Probably answered already but it's because Florida didn't want him. Machen (UF Pres) had his guy and his guy was Urban Cryer, the ultimate douche bag.

Had lunch with him about that time and I was really surprised he didn't go. In fact, every time I was around him the conversation turned (by him) to Florida. He freaking loves the place and it was always like a running promotion of the place by him when he talked. I was absolutely shell-shocked he did not go back. Haven't seen him in quite a while, so I don't know if he's still like that or not.

UF and USC both won big time.
