I'm not going to start another alum/sidewalk debate, but articles like that are precisely why being a UGA fan (in my case anyway) is about SO much more than just the football team. I hear so many UGA fans I know say they DGAS about basketball, or baseball, or anything at all to even remotely do with UGA other than the football team or the bars. I can pretty quickly figure out that they never went there. 18-20whatever are such important and formitive years of your life, and are likely the best few years you'll ever have. Thinking back on my time in Athens is so much more than just football Saturdays (although obviously those were great too).

Give me a break..........
Way too flowery, overly-sentimentalized and over-the-fricking-top.
I mean, be honest.......... If someone at your tailgate on Saturday in Athens, said "Fellas. I came here today because it reminds me of why I am alive".......beer would shoot out of your nose and you'd choke laughing so hard. RIght?

Never mind, I had a long response to this but being an alum does not make you a bigger fan of UGA.

I saw a young coed in skinny jeans, her long hair pulled back into a ponytail, struggling up the steps to the Science Library with an over-stuffed backpack, and I wanted to stop her. I wanted to tell her that life was too short, that she should revel in this moment, that she should enjoy every second of college because she’s going to spend the rest of her life trying to get back to this point, right here. And she’ll fail, because once it’s over, it’s over. Everything else is an imitation, a sham, a mirage.
This guy needs some Paxil. Good grief.

Please C&P from my post where I said that it does.
Thanks.

Where did I get

Yeah luckily I'm not at a tailgate on a Saturday. I'm reading a written piece on my fricking couch and going to class on the last day of my junior year. And when I walk through north campus in a minute I might go a bit slower and take my time because I read this.

He didn't say he's a "better fan". Simply said it's different. You can tell who went there and who didn't.

Me neither, I guess I just understood where he was coming from. I really enjoyed the article though. I went back for this weekend for the first time since I graduated in December. Man, I miss that place..

I guess you casually glanced over
All I was saying was "UGA" to me evokes that same kind of nostalgia that the author of that article mentioned. I never once said you aren't as good a fan if you didn't go there.

I read your whole response. Even re-read it after GH9 said something. It was the part about not starting another fight and then the part where most people who say they DGAF about basketball or baseball were sidewalk fans that I was talking about.
Like I said though, no need to start another discussion on this topic.

ok, like I said there was no debate/insult intended. Carry on.

quote:Same here... No one is dissing anyone. It's just where we who are alum spent our 18-22(24 for me) year old formative years, so it's special.
I guess I just understood where he was coming from
I assume everyone remembers those years (18-22)as some of the best times of their life, regardless of weather it was spent in school, military, working & getting out on your own for the 1st time etc...

This is sad. The hack who wrote that flower piece has actually robbed you of some of your college experience now. See..... instead of LIVING it and experiencing it, you're now going to waste time navel-gazing and over-analyzing it and trying to hold on to it.
Look. I have some better advice for you. It's very simple and can be summed up in one word.
"Onward".....................

Sorry, but some of us have been in Athens on days other than gameday and have been on campus during the week and can appreciate what the author is saying. Sorry you can't relate..
