What's the reason for the Spanish architecture at LSU, particularly the part around the Quad?

its the theme pretty much throughout campus. To you question of why...beats me.

It seems like most campuses have some sort of clock tower.

It wasn't called USoCar, back then, though, was it?

Mt. Aggie is a hill on west campus that is covered in turf that skiing and snowboarding kinesiology classes are taught on. We can ski year round in Aggieland
Can visitors do it?

Not SEC, but pics of my undergrad campus. Worth a visit if you've not been...

To make the UVA thing somewhat SEC related; Mizzou's campus was originally designed based on Thomas Jefferson's plans for The University of Virginia.

I'm pretty sure private groups can reserve it for events/parties/etc. <see TAMU Mountain Sports Club>, and I know there are various times throughout the year when it's open to the public for a few weeks; but since it's primarily used for ski classes @ TAMU, I think the schedule is pretty rigid, in terms of when Joe Public can wander up for some sleddin'.
I could be wrong. I'm not a Mt. Aggie regular by any means.

Nope, South Carolina College.
We went through a lot of names. The university has actually had a pretty troubled history. We went from one of the best universities in the South (and probably would rival a place like UNC-Chapel Hill today if it weren't for the Civil War) in the early 19th century to a Radical Reconstruction-ruined mess then back to a decent university.
I think our names went in this order:
South Carolina College (1801 until the Civil War)
University of South Carolina (during Reconstruction)
South Carolina College of the Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (end of Reconstruction until around 1890)
South Carolina College (around 1890 to around 1905)
University of South Carolina (around 1905 to today)

Mt. Aggie is open to ski every Tuesday from 7-9 pm. It isn't free unless you're a member of the club and for students who aren't it is only like $5 or $10. I'm pretty sure anybody who wants to ski during that time is able to but you might have to pay more.

LSU doesn't have Spanish architecture.
It's actually Italian. Florence, specifically.
Don't remember why, but it works very well with stately oaks, crepe myrtles and azaleas.
When I visit central California, where oaks and Spanish architecture are also plentiful, it reminds me a lot of LSU's campus. Paso Robles in particular.

Thats the ghost town of Rodney that was adbandon during the Civil war and still stands today it's not so much apart of the University as it is actually in the Delta along the Mississippi. But it was interesting and I thought I'd share.
Also the pic of the Columns by themselves is from Windsor Mansion that burnt down. It was one of the largest plantations in the Delta in the height of MS cotton reign.

Actually, it's Italian Rennaisance, not Spanish..

I figured it had historical significance McRebel--and I very much appreciate that fact.

Apparently one of the cannonballs fired from the union gunship is still lodged, unexpolded, in the old church.

One of my favorite pictures of LSU's campus
University Lake from Lod Cook Alumni Center
Looking at the Quad from Middleton Library
Fountain in the Quad
Mike's Habitat
Cox Building that used to be the old Gym Armory Building
Atkinson Hall at the end of the Quad
New Business Education Complex
Pretty cool picture here.
Good aerial shot showing the Lakes on the edge of campus and the Mississippi River in the background.

We don't have a very attractive campus compared to most SEC schools.

I love Missouri's campus. Thinking about going there for grad school.
Mizzou does have a nice campus and Columbia is a great college town, everyone has a good time there. Good luck with grad school.
