He will commit later this week to USC. He announced that he wants to commit to the school (didn't say who,) but we've been listed as his favorite on 247 for a while now. So, logic would dictate that he's committing to USC.

Pringle did not commit this week. Word was floating around the paysites that he did not have a committable offer. I don't know if that's the case or not.

I believe he wants to be a Gamecock, but I don't know what the holdup is. He told Kornblut that his decision is made.

Shaq Davidson. If you have 5 minutes, check out this guy's short highlight reel from last season. #5 WR on 247, lead candidate for Mr Football SC next year, plays at Gaffney. We are his current leader, but Ga Tech, Notre Dame and Auburn have recently offered.

Pretty solid looking player. He has the hands, body control and ability to break initial contact like Alshon, but he also has some wheels. His first steps and acceleration are really good for a guy his size. He's not as tall as Alshon, but he can go up to get it.

Shaq Davidson, Jr Highlights

Shaq Davidson is ours to lose. We're after a friend of his that is a basketball player, plus his best friend is already enrolled down here - so Shaq is down here all the time already. We just do not need to screw it up and he is ours.

Ronnie Martin is full go, right now. I spoke with him yesterday outside the stadium and he said he is completely 100% ready to go. (Sweetheart of a girlfriend too.) Super nice, polite kid.

Don't forget that Ali Groves is going to be used at corner and they thing he can be a good one there. It's very possible that Pharoh Cooper could be used there as well - likely so even.

Rico McWilliams is another guy that is supposed to have natural corner skills and ability. He was there was Ronnie Martin and their girlfriends while I was down there airing-out the cockaboose. He's another super nice kid that I just have a feeling is going to be a big time player for us - and he too told me they are using him at corner.

Point is, I don't think we're as bad-off at corner as you might think.

Looking at that list above, and from reading that we are only taking (give or take a few) 15 signees this next cycle.

I'm thinking:
2+ OL's
2 WR's
1 RB (but I've read some places that we are looking for 2)
2 CB's
2+ Safety's
2+ DT's
2 DE's
2 LB's
That would be 15, but the 15 number isn't firm and everything is always flexible. The numbers always work out.

We already have 1 LB, Joe Blue. So we will probably look for 1 more OLB.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. About every five years we cycle into a 15-18 man class and it really hurt that we lose two more schollies for this next class in the process, but we'll survive. 15 is probably a pretty accurate number. We're supposed to be at 81 schollies after the 2014 signing class, then it is over. Although, we cannot go back and fill those four schollies by oversigning in 2015.

Shaw, Patrick, Sutton and Legree ... are they the only seniors? Plus we'll lose Clowney, Hampton and now I'm hearing Quarles, although the coaches will try hard to sway him away from doing it, he seems like he is leaning that way right now.

Anyways, I think you are pretty darn close in terms of your projected numbers.

3 OLmen
2 WR (and they are looking for two big ones)
1 RB (that's it)
2 CBs
1 Safety
2 DTs
2 DEs (both Rush ends)
2 LBs (run stoppers, inside guys)
15 Total

Junior Day this Saturday and here is the list we have(subject to change):

Drew Barker QB
Tyler Harris QB
Bryson Allen-Williams LB
Derek Barnett TE/DE
Donnie Foster OL
Demarre Kitt WR (maybe)
Josh Malone WR
Maurice Trowell WR
Rico McGraw S
Milan Richard TE
Chris Williams DT

Derrell Scott will be here with his father on Thursday for a practice.

Per GCC

Unfortunately, we are having the junior day on the same freaking weekend as nike camps in Charlotte, so that is why the list is so damn small. WTF coaches.

Real glad we have Barker and Allen-Williams though, maybe someone will pull the trigger this weekend (hoping for A-W)

OL prospect Bentley Spain had an impressive NFTC camp showing in Charlotte recently:

Youtube Link #1
Youtube Link #2

In part due to that great showing, Spain has been invited to The Opening Showcase Camp, and yesterday was invited to participate in the U.S. Army All-America Bowl. Spain's recruitment is expected to be winding down sometime this spring or summer, and USC has been mentioned by several "insiders" to be a solid favorite...

Apparently we're having another Junior Day weekend this weekend. A couple of the top prospects confirmed to be visiting us will be 2014 DL prospects Da'Shawn Hand and Andrew Brown...a couple of VA prospects that are pretty much consensus 5* prospects....

A more complete list of visitors will be released later in the week....

Our #1 LB target committed today.

Bryson Allen Williams
https://southcarolina.247sports.com/Article/Bryson-Allen-Williams-commits-to-South-Carolina-126569

"They have been recruiting me the hardest and the longest," Allen-Williams said. "I went to the Georgia game and it was a great atmosphere. When I sit at home and listen to that Welcome to Williams-Brice intro, I get chills."

"Coach (Steve) Spurrier was the first person to call me this morning," Allen-Williams said. "He said I was a key factor to the 2014 class."

From what I posted on another thread about projections:

I saw that on 247 today, that's a great feature they are doing now. They seem pretty confident, like 100% about some of our top targets coming to USC.

I think we get Ritche and/or Crosby as well.

I also think we are somewhere at a 33% chance to get Berrios. Splitting with UNC and NC State.

We already have Joe Blue too and Allen-Williams committed as well. So with those 2, the 100% guys, Barker, Crosby/Ritche, that puts us at 13 or 14.

If we get Hand, who we are trailing for right now, then that will that will make 14 or 15, allowing us to probably take 2 more. If we miss on Hand, we will probably take the commit from Jhaustin Thomas. (Although we might take him regardless if he can come in January and Deke likes him.)

Altogether, I think we sign 15-17 guys, most of them will be 4 stars or up. This very well could be the best class on paper since the '07 class and certainly the best group of SC players since the '10 class.

PK printed an article recently that said he talked to Crosby Jr's dad/coach. He was told that the last weekend in June is the target announcement date. He said that USC is "a good little bit" in front with clemson and bama coming on strong. Crosby will visit a couple more schools and probably visit USC again and then decide.

One of our top WR targets, Terry Googer from GA, will visit with Coach Ward on Thursday.

From PK's article:

WR Terry Googer of Atlanta has offers from USC, Boston College, Miami, Tennessee, Louisville, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Syracuse, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech and Notre Dame. USC, Tennessee and Boston College are showing the most interest, according to Googer, but he says he does not have any leaders. "Everybody is still in it," he said.

However, sources said earlier this week Googer could possibly commit to USC this week. "I want to major in business," he said. "USC has one of the best international business schools in the country. They're telling me I could play early, maybe even start as a freshman. They said they want a big receiver to throw the ball up to. It's also close to home." Googer has visited USC several times and has developed a good relationship with Ward. "Every time I come down he shows me a good time," he said. Googer is expecting Ward to visit him Thursday. Googer will visit Georgia Tech Friday and will return to USC for another trip in the future. Googer played quarterback last season and will play both quarterback and receiver this season as well as some linebacker and safety. Some are recruiting him as an athlete but he said USC sees him as a receiver.

Nick Chubb has 2 at the top and it's USC and UGA.

Chubb just visited USC this past weekend. He came away impressed and I'm getting ready to print the "My Cock is ChubB" shirts.

From a PK article.
Georgia remains a strong player but the Bulldogs have company at the top from the Gamecocks. "It's a tie right now between USC and Georgia," he said. "I feel comfortable at both of them. I've got to find the things that I like and I have to see." Chubb added that either school taking another running back won't affect his decision which he will make in June. Last season he rushed for 2717 yards and 39 touchdowns.

He's the #7 TE on rivals and his frame is exactly what you might expect for a rising SR D1 TE recruit. 6'5" 210 lbs, he will probably add 30-40 lbs in college and be a great TE.

Getting 2 great TE's is important this year, b/c I think we might be losing our current 3 Top TE's in the next 2 years.

Anderson is going to have an incredbile year this year and may go pro early, and I could see Jerrell and Owens going the year after that.

We'll know more at the end of the season. If Rory ends up All SEC TE after this season, I think he'll leave.

Ritchie is the highest rated prospect per Rivals in the 3-man class currently for the '14 cycle, as he is the 212th overall prospect in the Rivals250 (Allen-Williams is the 247th rated prospect). Ritchie (6-5, 210) is the 7th-rated TE per Rivals, he is the 14th rated TE per 24/7 sports, a 3* (78 grade) and 10th rated TE per ESPN, and a 3* and 34th rated TE per Scout.com...

Yep, we currently have our tight end roster as follows:

Busta Anderson (true jr.): 6-5, 218
Jerrell Adams (true so.): 6-6, 224
Drew Owens (rs so.): 6-6, 241
Jeff Homad (rs jr. walk-on): 6-2, 224

Owens was lost last season as a RS-Fr. with a knee injury in the 2012 G&B Spring Game. He would be a certain candidate for a 6th year medical redshirt, if they chose to apply for it, as he lost a yr. of playing eligibility to injury without ever stepping foot in an official game.

I can see Busta looking at leaving early as you say if he blows up this season. He wasn't a huge option in our offense per se, but when he was thrown to, he had huge stats for gains and TDs per reception, and his athleticism is in Jared Cook territory.

Jerrell will get his first true opportunity to show what he can do as a TE, and after spending a year in prep school this will be his 3rd year out of HS, which would make him NFL draft-eligible. However I think his opportunities won't be enough as our #2 TE option after Busta to give him a realistic opportunity at draft-positioning. If he ends up out-performing Busta, or our offense has a lot more 2-TE plays than I'm expecting, then he could be considered, but I'd also be surprised to see either....

Drew is an under-rated TE option for us, due to all the hype both Busta and Jerrell have gotten. Drew is the bigger, more conventional TE body type, but he is also very athletic and has great hands. Drew is and has been more of a "true" TE, as both Busta and Jerrell have been more WR or DE hybrids during their prep years. Drew has played TE mostly at Ardrey Kell High School out of Charlotte.....

Having a 3-man roster of Busta, Jerrell, and Drew of 6-5+ and around 220+ lbs is the deepest, tallest, and most athletic depth we've had there that I can ever remember. And we will add yet another with Ritchie next year....

Drew Barker, nation's #7 Pro Style QB, who is our top QB target, is set to announce May 10th. Mangus visited him on Apr 30th and will get in a visit next week as well. Barker visited UT and UK last week. He is set to choose b/w those 3 schools. 247Sports projects him to USC! However, we'll see what happens. He grew up a UK fan.

247 Analysts Niebuhr and Wiltfong pick USC for Barker. We'll find out what's up though later this week when he commits to either UK or USC.
