Well, we had some movement in recruiting.

Hand, overall #1, eliminated us from his top 5. I guess it's better to find that out earlier rather than on NSD. Now we can focus more effort on SDE's we have a shot with. What's really surprising is he eliminated long time favorite vatech as well.

Chubb chose uga, no surprise there.

Gaillard came out and said he likes playing DT in a 4-3 better than a 3-4 defense. However, he's still a uga lean.

We've apparently dropped interest in Googer, as he's filling out to be a TE, and we already have 2 of the top 12 TE's. (Although, Crosby is an ATH and could play other positions.)

A new DT we have on our radar is Abu Lamin. He's a JUCO from NC, but currently in KS. He will have 3 to play 3. It should come down to arky or us.

Wesley Green, 4* DB from GA no has USC, celmson and ut in his top 3.

DT/DE Poona Ford speculation is still all over the place. If he visits USC in the summer we still might have a chance, otherwise I don't think so.

DT/TE Newell is only planning on visiting nebraska and USC this summer before his decision. He's still predicted to go to nebraska, but he's been saying a ton of great things about our program and Spurrier recently.

We are still the leader for OT/OG Stanley (despite a tater rumor that bama now leads.)

We are still in the lead group for APB Scott, per his coach. There's a strong bond b/w Pharoh Cooper and Scott, so I think we get the commit.

DT/DE Wideman is still all USC.

Darrin Smalls and Al Harris Jr are still USC leans.

We're in TN WR's Josh Malone's top 10 right now.

CB DJ Smith visited this last weekend and now has scheduled more visits. We moved up on his board and now will be competing with UTk for him.

We also still lead for Shaq Davidson WR and

former UF WR commit Ryeshene Bronson is now showing us a little love, we are in his top 5. (His cousin is Jordan Diggs BTW)

Ripple effects from 2015 Commit Arden Key...his teammate, 2014 CB Wesley Green, is rumored to be the commit. We'll see if it happens though, as he's changed leaders a couple times.

And reportedly CB Darrin Smalls is expected to commit on his visit this weekend...that'll take care of 2 of 3 DB slots we have for this class, per most insider talk. We have great positions with several other DB prospects:

D.J. Smith (4* 90-grade per 24/7) - per Clemson's 24/7 site is down to USC and CU....Tennessee had been among the leaders for him for some time, but may be slipping. Smith wants to wait until NSD but with the other commits he may be pressed to make a decision sooner. He will visit USC this summer - perhaps for our Showcase Camp - and see a game.

Chris Lammons (4* 93) - has us in his top 5 without ever visiting us, and plans to do so this summer, perhaps for our Showcase Camp. Recruiter Grady Brown has done great work here of late and really put USC in the picture. He's still strong on Miami which was his early favorite and IMO they are in the driver's seat. Will decide on NSD.

Quincy Wilson (3* 86) - Has USC in his final 8 and is planning to visit sometime this summer, perhaps the Showcase Camp...

I want to wait to start a thread for our 2015 recruiting class so we can focus on this cycle, but with this class being so small and the activity happening lately with the '15 class pretty much rivaling our current class' pace, it's been hard not to.

But the news is that we offered '15 CB Mark Fields today and we already lead big for him. Fields is the namesake of Mark Fields who played for the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers. Mark Jr. is already a 4* (90 grade) prospect per 24/7 Sports and is reportedly a burner with sub 4.4 speed. It looks like our 2015 class is sizing up to be one for the ages...

DB Darin Smalls of Summerville, SC committed to South Carolina today on an unofficial visit to Columbia. Smalls (5-11, 200) was originally planning on signing on NSD, but he has been a solid USC lean for quite a while, and with USC only taking 3 DBs in this small class and with Wesley Green committing ahead of time as well as several other top-rated DBs looking at the Gamecocks, he chose to make the call this weekend.

Smalls is rated an 89-grade 3* (90 grade is 4*) by 24/7 Sports, and a 5.7 3* (5.8 is a 4*) by Rivals. He is expected to bump up to 4* by both services soon. He is the 7th commitment for the '14 class, which is expected to take around 15-17 total commitments...

Sands gets another solid recruit. I like keeping the best SC talent in SC. I heard Smalls is really fast as well, runs track.

Longtime DE recruit Jhaustin Thomas has been officially added as a commit for the 2014 class by both Rivals and 24/7 Sports. Thomas (6-6, 255) was part of USC's 2012 class, but didn't make it past admissions and had to go the JUCO route.

At one point his offer was still good but then it looked like he wouldn't be an early December enroller for us: our policy regarding JUCOs these days is that we at least want them to be early enrollers so that they can take part in pre-season spring camps and summertime strength & conditioning programs to acclimate them into the program quicker, as opposed to waiting until fall camp and find out that they won't be much of a factor their 1st season. Or in the case of Abu Lamin, if they have 3 years to play 3 instead of 2, that's also preferable.

Now it appears he's got his grades in order to enroll early, and Deke Adams is on board for accepting his commitment, so he's now a part of the class. I don't know what this means regarding any other DE prospects we were supposedly high with for this class. We just need to make sure we bring in those 2 DE studs for the '15 class.

Thomas is the 8th member of the 2014 class...

I like this move, and I'm happy to read that he got his academics in order. Once he gets to campus he'll have the support from the Dodie, Tutors and coaches to keep his grades up and make sure he works towards his goals.

He was a BEAST in HS, and a solid offer list. I'll be interested in seeing how much he has improved his game since then.

I agree with the coaches' policy on JUCO's with only 2 seasons of PT available. They need that spring, summer and fall camp to really get them up to speed so they can hopefully contribute the first game.

Shaq Davidson is set to announce Tuesday. I would think it's for USC. Another Mr Football SC on the team, so that's awesome.

Also not for football, but still a tremendous recruit for USC is that I'm also reading that Davidson's good friend and top 2014 basketball prospect LJ Peak is supposedly going to announce Tuesday as well, and it's expected to USC!

Peak, a 6-5 190 SF and Rivals 4* Rivals150 (82nd), would join 4* Rivals150 (65th) PG and USC commit Eric Stroman as probably our only commits for the '14 cycle, but what a 2-man class! Added to 2013 4* signees Thornwell and Henry, and with 4* transfer Johnson already showing leadership qualities, I'm getting really excited about the future of our BB program under Coach Martin. This is fantastic news regarding BOTH Davidson and Peak!

Can one of yall post one of these, like I did on the UGA board earlier, with your current commits (not leans), and please feel free to put the little stars by them, or better yet, links to their profile for some of the more remarkable commits?

SHAQ DAVIDSON IS A GAMECOCK!!

Huge pickup, the front runner for Mr Football SC this year. He's another great WR with a QB's vision. Really happy to have him on the team.

His 1st step and acceleration are about as good as it gets. I would be surprised if he redshirts and I expect him to open the '14 season in the 2 deep.
