Forgot to add I did do some back and bis tonight after muscle pain subsided from a few days ago (chest and tris, first workout with weights in months).

i did a light upper body work out last night.

dumb bell overhead press, curls, upright rows, and 1 set of bent over rows. 20 minutes on the treadmill before hand, but it was only on 4. very high incline, though. trying that approach for a bit.

Ran two days ago for the first time in forever. 2.5 miles to ease back into it, finished in less than 17 mins, which I'm happy about. but damn my legs are still sore today.

Elliptical this morning, followed by legs and a bit of abs. I know it's been less than two weeks, but my clothes are fitting soooooo much better!

Digging the morning workouts, too. So nice to go when there aren't many people there.

oh man. mine are so NOT fitting better.

I'm at the odd stage of pregnancy where you can't tell if it's a bump or just a girl getting fat.

Well, yeah, but you have the very best reason! I was just getting fat!

I think it's the eating more than anything. Very little sugar, grain or dairy. Although...I did allow myself a small piece of chocolate yesterday.

I had a blast on my first toughmudder in Oct. My pals want to do another in May(Kansas), but that's a 10hr drive for me - on the weekend before finals - and the next kid is expected in March, which will cut even further into training time (what's that anyway...I'm up over 180lbs for the first time ever)!

I am doing the Kansas one in May! I used to live in Lawrence and I'm doing it with a couple of buddies up there. It's an 11 hour drive for me, though. I did one back in 2012 and had a blast. Really looking forward to this one.

I started feeling a sharp pain in my right shoulder today. It's posterior, so I'm thinking maybe I injured my infraspinatus, teres major, or teres minor.

I guess I'll skip tonight's and tomorrow's workouts and then test my shoulder next Monday.

How's the shoulder?

Workout with personal trainer last night. Didn't die!

Bridal fair on Sunday. There was cake. I have no regrets.

Weight is all over the place, but clothes are still fitting better and better, so I'm just ignoring it. Feeling great!

Doing better. Not obviously sore anymore, and I did some lower rep sets of pushups and pullups yesterday. I'm going to do the same today, and I might go back to my regular workouts tomorrow depending on how today goes. I'll probably still keep the reps lower than usual, though.

Thanks for mentioning the Armstrong Program. My son is leaving for boot camp in a couple of months and I told him about it. He is doing it and getting stronger!

I'm glad someone else is getting some use out of it. Good luck to your son.

On my behalf, tell him to finish each pullup slowly... don't drop down to save energy. I think that's how I strained my shoulder. Dropping down like that puts a lot of stress on the joint and rotator cuff muscles.

Actually, this video says it better, as it's the actual director of fitness as the Naval Special Warfare Center explaining pull up form: LINK

He may also find this video useful. It discusses shoulder strength, flexibility, and injury prevention. Again, it's NWSC guys: LINK

I tried to return to my normal routine today, but during my second set of pull ups I felt the same pain in my shoulder. I did one more set to see if it persisted, and the feeling just got stronger.

Then I thought that maybe chin ups wouldn't cause stress on whatever is hurt, so I gave one set a shot. Turns out I was right. I was able to complete my routine with chin ups.

I still can't tell exactly what's hurting... I'd like to do some light exercises to try to strengthen whatever it is when it starts feeling better.

bump

I had stopped running and lifting since thanksgiving of last year. Had a few things come up in life that pushed my workout routine to the back burner. From studying for finals, studying for the NASM personal trainer exam, bought some rental property that needed working on/getting renters into, and other life events working out hasn't been a priority.

But now I'm getting back into the swing of things. I began running again about the middle of last month. Started out just running a mile, walking a half mile, then running another mile. Did that for a couple-three weeks before I bumped it up to running two miles straight though without any breaks. Did that for a couple weeks and now starting yesterday I'm doing three miles without a break, then walking a half mile. Want to slowly build back up to where I was in 2012, when I was able to run 13 miles two or three times a week. I'm at 250 right now, wouldn't hurt my feelings to get back down to the 215 I was at in 2012.

Looking at running some 5k's and possibly 10k's this spring.

6.8 min mile is "easing back into it"? That's pretty friggin impressive.

I used to exclusively run for fitness, up to about 4 miles a day, probably 6 min miles flat. When I wrote that, I was a few months into the spartacus workout, which is decent for cardio. Now I've moved on to lifting pretty often, no cardio, I've probably added 5 pounds of muscle.

Which is to say 2 miles might kill me right now. I'll give it a try tomorrow, though, if I don't feel like doing leg day at the gym.
