I honestly believe Saban never would have stayed at LSU for long. The only thing that might have extended his stay is if LSU never got a shot to play for a national championship in 2003. In that scenario, I see him staying at LSU for a few more years, winning a national championship in 2006, and then accepting the Falcons job. Bobby Petrino becomes the new LSU coach and Saban stays in the NFL for three seasons before taking the Notre Dame job after the 2008 season with Weis being fired a year earlier with Saban available. God only knows where Alabama would be by now.

I agree
About the 3rd year I no longer thought Coach Saban would stay permanent in BR. He doesn't suffer fools well and there is a sizeable noisy element in the fanbase that can be irritating. This same crew forgets about all the yelping in 04 after a 9-3 season and a last play loss to Iowa (56 yard TD pass )...but a season that immediately followed a CC and 1st major NC in 45 years. Also oddly the very same crew that yearns for Coach Saban now like a spurned lover.
