go get Duke and North Carolina
Duke would NEVER join the SEC under any circumstances. Academic reputations are a very big deal to them (understandably), and they would regard most of the SEC schools as far beneath them. Can you imagine them having to share a conference with Mississippi State? The horror! In addition, they would be a terrible fit culturally. Much of their fan base (such as it is) doesn't even live in the South, but is spread out nationally (especially in the Northeast). The lack of enthusiasm for their football program makes Vanderbilt and Kentucky look "hard core" by comparison.

I live in Charlottesville and I have never, ever heard a single UVA fan voice any desire to join the SEC. UVA is probably the third most hard-core in its alleigance to the ACC (after UNC and Duke). The culture is very different from SEC schools. Earlier this year when there were some shenanigans with the President being ousted, the city, students, and alum were literally protesting and the Board backed down. They care about academics/general reputation first. Football to them is on the same level as basketball. They have top lacrosse and soccer teams. It just ain't like the SEC.
UVA would be a great addition academically and from a geogrpahic standpoint (also a nice roadtrip to a great college town), but IMO there would be zero support for that kind of move and if it did happen it would be an unhappy marriage.
Virginia Tech, on the other hand fits in very well with the SEC. Probably the best fit out there aside from Clemson and FSU.

How about La-lafayette, Wofford, La-Monroe or any other number of similar programs proven to be competitive with the over rated SEC?

I think we should bring in Southern Cal on a limited timeframe, to get exposure in California and kick Lane Kiffin's arse for a few more years when he thought he got away.
