Will there ever be a successful push to drop Ole Miss/Rebels?

After watching our 30 for 30 tonight I can't help but wonder to myself, like Colonel Reb, will there ever be a successful push by any person or group to drop the University's affiliation with the nicknames Ole Miss or Rebels.
I'm on my phone so if you don't know where either came from just look it up.
I will say though, I personally am okay with Colonel Reb being removed. However, if we were ever to drop Ole Miss or Rebels I would be devastated; particularly Ole Miss. I understand the fact that where the term originates conjures up terrible feelings and emotions, but to me it's simply a term of endearment to the University I love.

If it bothered today's generation of black kids, they wouldn't go to ole miss. That term isn't going anywhere. Our fricking president is black (for now)

Someone please prove to me where Ole Miss comes from. Proof, thanks.
Until then, those whiners can STFU

They should not change Ole Miss or Rebels. Just like the Redskins will never change their name.

Luckily, "Rebels" isn't too incendiary right now.
Plus, there's always UNLV to validate the name

I don't think anything should have changed.

Then they've won already so you may as well quit now.
The first thing they needed to do was convince everyone why the American Civil War was fought.
Now that they've convinced everyone that its because everyone in the South are racists they can start stripping more of your culture away. You may as well petition Chicken to change Col Reb to a Bear because he'll be pressured by some group from Wisconsin or face business pressure from advertisers.
Why fight it. It's easier to give in and let them tell you how to think.

I doubt I'll see it in my lifetime, but I'm not going to say never.

Do any of you tools have the balls to say you wish the south had won?
Hank Williams, Jr. had the balls to write a song about it.
quote:
Seems like A LOT of people down south HATE him on a personal level. They hate the guy with a passion. People said they've never seen so much hate towards one guy since JFK, MLK, and LBJ, I wonder why. It seems to come from deep south states.
Maybe because the South is generally conservative from a political standpoint. It could also have something to do with the fact that Obama is a SOCIALIST running a country that was founded by a bunch of men who believed in CAPITALISM.
You are the only tool on this board Maplethorpe. Lost in your bullshite is the fact that most of the slaves that were imported into the United States came in through Northeastern ports. How's that hypocrisy of the Union suit you? I guess you're one of the ones who believes we owe African-Americans reparations for slavery. I've always wondered why the same liberal media that vilifies the South never mentions the fact that they were sold into slavery by their own people in Africa. Doesn't justify enslaving people but to make the South out to be the devil in all this is just more mindless drivel from the radical left wing agenda.

Not replying to anyone in particular, but yes.
I hope there are riots. Ole Miss fans need to stand up for their traditions. It's not the fanbase I don't like. It's the administration.
After languishing away in Shitvegas for 3 years, I'd love to call a town so rich in history as Oxford home, but as I've said before, I can't support a school that's so ashamed of itself.

Ole Miss should never be dropped, nor the Rebels.
It is part of history. Libs in this country try to paint over history by fighting to get historical novels like Tom Sawyer banned from the class rooms. All this does is a disservice to kids of all races. It is a major part of this nation's history.
Time and time again, when history is forgotten, it repeats itself. The lessons learned are lost, and the mistakes repeated.

In reply to the original post..."will there ever be a successful push to drop Ole Miss/Rebels?"
Revisionist history is dangerous. We can be a beacon for change. So, in other words...HELL NO.

If so don't stop there. Just demolish the whole campus, move it elsewhere, and name it Mississippi A&M or something.

If they knew where fighting tigers came from, they'd be all over our arse to change it.
