It's not like towns in Arkansas have Charlie strong day as a holiday or anything.

Oh wait, they decided to do this 2 months ago. I don't know anywhere in Kentucky that has a Holiday for Strong.

This has probably been in his mind since this happened in July.

Charlie Strong Appreciation Day

ETA: I hope Charlie Strong is our coach by the next Charlie Strong Day.

Everyone knows UL is just a stepping stone for their coach to be hired by Arkansas

If we're paying $4 million (which I expect we probably will) we should at least throw that at Peterson first.

Strong could be had in Fayetteville for less than that. Hell he'd probably do it for $2.5 and a better budget than he is used to for paying assistants.

The assistants he gets is as important as the HC himself, for sure.

Peterson does well with skinny whiteboy football. We're less skinny whiteboy than Idaho.

I think he'd kill here.

He strikes me as smart and unstubborn enough to hire a quality DC. I think one of Petrino's problems was his ego (OBVIOUSLY) and his unwillingness to turn any part of the program over to a qualified assistant. That, or he was such an a-hole that no good assistants would bother working for him.

Well, going on what past Boise coaches have done in big boy conferences, I'd like for us to stay away from them

Neither Nutt nor Hawkins ever had a run like Peterson at Boise.

Their budget and facilities are shite, yet he managed quite a run.

All true

I guess I'm just fed up with our shitty defenses and inability to get the best players, and want someone who can change that... I don't want another offensive minded guy to come in and not pay attention to the defense

I have a feeling we will go for broke with this hire. The Petrino move surprised a lot of people because they didn't think of Arkansas as a high-paying job, or a football school. The truth is, we do have a history of hiring good coaches and paying them well, and we are a lot richer than the average casual college football fan realizes.

We just had a scheister of the highest order dug in like a tick for a decade, telling us to lower our expectations and it eventually took hold with some people.

Just because you give a guy with two 7-6 seasons under his belt $4M a year, that won't turn him into a great coach. You're giving a 7-6 coach $4M a year, which is crazy.

Charlie Strong is a bad idea, imo. No way he'd be able to recruit the defensive talent to arky he would need to keep things going up there. Quite frankly, I really don't know how a black football coach would be received. No knock on the good people of Arkansas, but that's just the way it is. If I were Long I'd throw a number at Dana Holgerson that WV would never match and make him turn us down. Arky's success was built on a great offensive scheme that exploited defensive weaknesses. If Dana can put up 450+ yards on LSU's D then he can probably get 600 against most of the sec. Recruiting talented under the radar skill players is arky's tradition, so as long as the coaching is there you can continue that. The goal should be to remain competitive with LSU and bama, and take the rest of the sec to the woodshed on a regular basis by essentially outcoaching them, which can damn sure be done. If Dana says no I'd be looking at June Jones and MAYBE Chris Peterson. G.Patterson is the only defensive coach I'd call.
