I never liked him, he had a mediocre record at LA Tech. I lol'd when Tennessee hired him.

1. Vince Dooley. Almost everyone liked his Dad.
2. He worked for Saban. Everyone wants to find the next Saban who is not as unlikable as the current Saban.
3. He doesn't beat anybody.
4. Compared to Phil Fulmer and Lane Kiffin, he's as lovable as Morgan Freeman. First time in a generation the Vols didn't hire a douchebag as their coach.

Just like we all lol'd at Arkansas this past weekend when LA-Monroe whooped that arse!!!
To the OP, I have been critical of Dooley at times since he was hired, but I feel that when looking at the big picture of what kind of hell he walked in to here, that he has done a good job, and is just what we needed. It would have taken ANY coach several years to get the program back up on its feet due to how bad things had gotten, and we needed someone that had some integrity and would do things the right way-Dooley. I just had hopes that he would also be able to win once he had built us back up to respectability....I am hoping that this year will be that year and that he only becomes more successful in the future.

Integrity which he at least in part inherited from from his dad, Vince Dooley. Being a young handsome guy and solid family man doesn't hurt either. IMHO Dooley was a great choice to lead the Vols out of the debacle that was Lane Kiffin.

I remember a lot of UT fans were talking about Dooley's integrity after the UK game last year, most were very impressed with him and hoped he would be signed to an extension.
Seriously...I like him and he inherited a very bad situation not of his doing..you have to be patient and give him one more year..in case this year doesnt go very well..which you may not have to worry about.
I like his dry humor and wit....much more approachable than his diddy who was as stiff as an ironing board. He did recruit questionable characters to the program but his hands were almost tied...he had to take chances to try and get studs to build a foundation..once he is successful he can be afforded the luxury of being more careful recruiting.
He did have an ace in his hand when recruiting upon arriving...he could sell immediate playing time to recruits and hence was able to land some studs on the OL for example who knew at Bama, LSU or UF they might have to wait to play. Your record of W/Ls took a hit early on...but he knew it would and now that you have been through the misery he is about to take UT to a higher level imho. Those true frosh he played the first two years are going to pay dividends now....hopefully after this saturday

I've heard his real personality is quite different than his "on-air" personality and that he's actually quite the a-hole.

Any man who wears orange pants and totes an orange plastic dog around on a dolly has my respect.
His hair is kinda sexy too.

What's with the orange dog? Smokey's not orange. He's a glorious black and tan color with some white speckles but he's not orange.

It's one of those "guess you had to be there" things.

It was a classic rant by the mom

if what happened to me? if i was dumb enough to let 13 players on the field? yea...i guess i would be mad. i still would've shaken Miles' hand afterwards.
It wasn't Dooley, it was Chuck Smith. Chuck Smith screwed recruiting, development, pretty much everything that year. It was why he was fired.
