Here's what Google found per your advice...

quote:

2001 Miami Hurricanes, The G.O.A.T. College Football Team

The offense set the school scoring record, while the defense led the nation in scoring defense (fewest points allowed), pass defense, and turnover margin.

Here are some players form that team:

Ken Dorsey, Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, Najeh Davenport, Frank Gore, Jeremy Shockey, Andre Johnson, Kevin Beard, Bryant McKinnie and Joaquin Gonzalez, Jerome McDougle, William Joseph, Vince Wilfork, Jonathan Vilma, D.J. Williams, Ed Reed, Mike Rumph, Phillip Buchanon, Kellen Winslow II, Sean Taylor, Antrel Rolle, Vernon Carey, and Rocky McIntosh.

17 players went on to be 1st round draft pics
Largest margin of victory over consecutive ranked teams (124-7)

Wait, what?

You can't say
quote:

I, like most intelligent college football fans, look at the total numbers and stats for the year.

And then "BOOM" this:

quote:

I also feel that 2011 Bama played far superior opponents during the regular season as well as in the championship game.

as i posted earlier, you can keep your stats. When it comes to a single game of college football being played and I had to pick a defense it would be Miami. College football is all about speed and that Miami team had more speed than any other I have seen.

In the gumps defense, no one thought that 01 Miami team was the goat during or right after the year. It wasn't until people realized all the draft picks they had.

Just wanted to point out.. Bama's 2009 is catching up. 10 players have gone 1st round that played on that team. 10 others drafted in other spots. Will be interesting to see where some more will go this year, that played on that team.

BS. We could have scored 20 or more points than we did on at least half of our opponents.

I'm sure.

Regardless, I was talking about defense.

At least you are not a complete idiot. That's exactly what I just said two pages ago. Alabama still have five starters back from the 2011 defense. The other six are on NFL rosters. Lets wait and see what all 11 do in the NFL first.

We're not talking about LSU's D last year. We're talking about Alabamas, and Arkansas had a legit top 25 offense nationally last year. That was my only point. But thanks for posting something completely irrelevant to the conversation

Listen up stupid arse.

Your reply to was to RickDaddy4188's post "The numbers? So you think comparing stats from playing two diff schedules tells to something? Gumps are dumber than I thought. The best offense Bama played last year was a Jordan Jefferson led LSU".

So yes.....my post WAS relevant. What is NOT relevant is every Gump that came to a thread comparing LSU's 2012 defense to Miami's 2001 defense and brought up anything to do with a team not involved in that comparison. Bama's 2011 may very well be the GOAT....but that was not what the subject said. It didn't claim Miami to be the GOAT. It simply compared 2 defenses neither of which was Alabama.

Well you post about me in every thread recently

Me thinks you flatter yourself way too much.

quote:

JJ led offense was #2 in the sec in scoring

You're really going to credit JJ with all the points we scored?

He didn't see the field until the Kentucky game and didn't see more than limited action until Lee was pulled in Tuscaloosa.

He had one good game against Arkansas and did just enough to eek out a win against Bama.

Beyond that, you've got to be fricking insane if you think JJ should be credited with all the points our TEAM scored last season. He accounted for 9 touchdowns on the season and 3 of those were prior to the Bama game when Miles took out Lee in the red zone and gave JJ the glory.

Here are his stats... knock yourself silly:

Like a thread comparing 2011 Alabama and 2001 Miami wouldn't have a LSU fan bring up their defense.

What players did after they left college for different teams, under different coaches, and with different teammates has very little to do with what they achieved as a unit on their college football teams. It's fun to count draft picks but imo it has little to do with picking a GOAT unit.

Miami 2001 is considered the GOAT because of who played on that defense, so many future NFL superstars. If the same thing happens with Alabama then they'll be considered for the distinction.
