Wait, what?

"The two universities do not agree on when the rivalry began. The University of Georgia's athletic department counts a 1904 match its football squad played against a team from a school known as the University of Florida.[1] The game was held in Macon, Georgia, and Georgia won 52–0.[1] However, this was not the modern University of Florida in Gainesville, but one of its four predecessor institutions: a school previously known as Florida Agricultural College, based in Lake City.[2] Florida's University Athletic Association does not include this game in the series record,[3] as it occurred before the modern university was established by the Florida Legislature in 1905,[4] and before the new entity fielded its first officially-recognized football team in 1906.[3]"

And we're Florida's oldest SEC rival.

Georgia first played Florida in 1904 and have played 90 games as of last season
Pretty sure Georgia is Florida's oldest rival

One of my all-time favorite games was '01 when Duval kicked the FG to beat #1 UF in JHS and everyone stormed the field. I missed being hit in the head by the falling goal posts by about 2 feet. Would have been even better if the a-hole cops hadn't unleashed pepper spray on the students.

We were either pretty close to eachother or on the opposite of the post at that point...that cracking sound is still similar to nothing else i've ever heard

In true cool story bro glory; my roomate at the time was rushing the field when a cop was trying to pull some dude down, right then another fan ran full blast into the cop knocking his cop hat off that my buddy then picked up and took with him. Some people took clippings of the bushes, or pieces fo the goal post to remember that night...he got a cop hat.

As an old time Gator...I remember almost every single game with AU since 1963 when Jimmy Sidle was qb for AU and we lost 19-0...but in 1964 we took an interception back 88yds for TD by Dick Kirk (who ran 40 yds against Bama the year before to upset them 10-6 in Tuscaloosa) and won 14-0 as memory serves me...no, Im not looking at a media guide either. In 1965 we lost 28-17 when a backup qb Alex Bowden (sp?) came off the bench and threw a 60+ yd TD pass to make it 17-14 late in the fourth qt...Spurrier & co. tried a gadget play that backfired and it resulted in another TD but it was a much closer game than results show...and who could forget 1966 when Spurrier kicked a 40yd FG to win 30-28 or something like that. We lost Tucker Fredrickson who went to AU because UF didnt have a vet school then. Ahh the memories...we used to beat AU quite often at home and vice versa. The 2007 game was a big disapointment...AU came in 2-2 after almost losing to Kan State and losing to USF & Moo State, when Brandon Cox looked awful. Tubby did a great job firing the team up and we should have had more fire in us after losing to AU in 2006, but we thought we only had to show up in the Swamp.

Spurrier loved the series and almost all Gators wish we still played...I remember when AU had three nicknames, Tigers, War Eagles and Plainsmen.
We might yet see the series return?

Bama and AU got to duck UF in the 90's and 2000's by rarely playing them. UGA and UT weren't so fortunate.

Being a Volunteer I will try to cut you some slack, but I will point out that Bama and UF met 9 times (4 in the SECCG) in the 90's. Not exactly rare. So, to reiterate what the AU fans are saying, it appears that you do not, in fact, know what you are talking about.

Hope so. Too bad that the conference thinks it is more important these days for us to play teams like Arkansas and Texas A&M.

I know he was, but being a Vol I had to go off of the letter of what he wrote and give him hell. The UF/Bama rivalry in the 90's was pretty heated, with UF getting the better of Bama most of the time, but some great games in there.

Btw, it was 5, not 4 in the SECCG, and the series was 6-3 in UF's favor.

Btw, I clicked on this thread since I was interested to hear the history of this rivalry a few months back as I do not really remember it. But my question is how did AU play UF every year in the 90's? How is that possible with the UGA series?

Could be wrong on the year but i believe until 2002 most teams had two permenent cross division "rivals"

If not for the 2002 change in schedules, the UF-AU game would be the second most played game for both schools. It sucks it isn't played every year anymore.

I would love to play Auburn every year. I consider them one of the schools in the SEC that have good fans. Most teams have good fans by the way it's just the drunk idiots that make it unbearable.

We've not played well against Auburn as of late and for most years that because the competition was good. Last year we both sucked but Rainey decided that fumbling punts was an excellent strategy after not during it much during his entire career. Shiite happens.

Bring on the war chickens.

Even though I am an Auburn graduate, our daughter goes to the University of Georgia (thanks Hope Scholarship!) and is in the Redcoat band.

She has a band mate amongst the 400 other members who at half time stole a Florida kickers shoe. Put it in the bell of a tuba he was playing. Still has the kickers shoe in his dorm room apparently.
