I still pick them 2nd or 3rd, just wished they would not have gone this route. Possibly the first time ever in CFB?

Arkansas is such a great program, we got coaches burning bridges left and right just to coach here. Jealous?

Every head coach starts with no HC experience. These guys would also have an advantage of already being in and familiar with the program.

What do you not inderstand about Smith being on staff here for 3 years? The players here love him.

Not really that big of a deal. Many HC are the de facto OC or DC anyways.

Yea, they are. We didn't have a head coach, we only had coordinators and position coaches. You're asking for a person with no experience in leading a program, to lead a major D1 program and also do his duties as a coordinator. Not only that, you may have staff animosity towards the person who is promoted to interim. If smith isn't gone for 3 months, he is named interim the day Petrino is put on leave.

He is bringing in a guy that ran out on a program before he ever coached a game, and for what? To coach one year? Absolute dick move, by both parties.

He was only coaching a year at Weber State. He had much more of a connection with Arkansas, its players, boosters than at Weber. He is retiring after the season no matter where he coaches.

Really? He was there 4 months what kind of bond do you think he had with these guys? Some of you guys are the biggest babies in the world.

It has nothing to do with the emotional bond you dumbass, it leaves them without a coach or searching for a coach just a few months before fall practice starts. It fricks up their upcoming season. Arky fans of all people should understand how losing your HC this close to the season isn't ideal.

True, but that is nothing Long could do about that. Doesn't mean he needs to slide into the gutter also.

Its a 10mo contract.

why is everyone crying? But, please, go a head. I think the more grief Long gets, the more willing he will be to throw 6 million at Saban ~

you don't think they'll be any animosity from the staff that was already there towards an ex special teams coach and broadcaster brought in from Weber State.

More BS. If the guy loses one game and wins SEC, he will be back. Don't care what he or Long say.

Johnson/Haynes havn't been there long enough to have legitimate animosity and PPetrino is in a delicate situation. He never had a shot at the job any ways.

I don't know. A 10mo contract says (1) that Long is actively seeking candidates; (2) he didn't spend any money on this hire and firing CBP... and has a ton of money to throw at a new coach; and (3) if we win the SEC, there will be plenty of big name coaches calling about the Job.

I'm going to assume Long will consider the future of the program, and will not base this on Smith's one year tenure coaching Petrino's team.

So Arkansas had to hire a coach that was currently sitting on his arse? Yea, that's a long list to choose from....

Some people just want to complain about anything. Fact of the matter was that they weren't going to get a good coach until after the season, but why does this season have to be a wasted season? Well, now it won't be. Somebody was going to get screwed. Bobby screwed Arkansas so Arkansas screwed Weber State. There is a reason small schools have their coaches taken and it's not because they are at the top of the football world.

Yes that's it, Bama struggled so much with the best coach ever at Ark. No way we can compete with the MSU/WSU retread. Good luck with recruiting.

How do you think Gator players felt when Mullen left? Did you sympathize with them? Did you hope your AD "learned a lesson" through all of that?

You went full dumbass there. The two aren't even comparable. Byrne went to Foley and said we were interested in him. They interviewed him before the BCS NCG and was allowed to coach in BSC game before he left Florida. And we didn't leave Florida without a HC. All done by the book, the way it should have been done. Now where are your parallels?
