I haven't been able to watch ESPN so I don't know if he has been interviewed and asked about this.

Presser is today from what I've heard so maybe today but I doubt it.

ETA: The guy was going to be there 1 year. Its not like he was going to be their HC for multiple years so I don't see how its that big of a deal. Maybe I'm just being a hog fan

Let us remember that football players don't hold nearly the same fondness for an institution that ordinary students do that graduated from there. Most of the time the players look at the institution as merely a job while they play football. They are never as heavily vested in the school as the fans want them to be

You are being a tad bit of a hog fan. It's kind of a d move to do.

I'm a bit surprised Long went that route just for that reason. It seems like he would want a solution that didn't have any reverb at all if you know what I mean.

I'm sure Weber State isn't impressed with the decision. They could have found someone a bit more loyal. They are really screwed.

That sounds like somthing prickish Petrino would say. I'm sure all the kids that were gonna play for him and their parents care.

Any coach Long would have went for would be getting this treatment. Being that its Weber state he probably didn't think there would be much media backlash because... who the frick is Weber state.

Long was in a lose lose situation.

No doubt it was a shitty move to do to the university. But that being said, players don't love the schools the way you and I do. What is unsettling in all of this is that Arkansas has an AD that doesn't seem to learn a lesson quickly

Which is why Long should have stayed in house to hire his interim coach and then went for his permanent solution after the season. No one bats an eye when a coach leaves a program high and dry for a better situation but everyone is up in arms when a 20 year old kid wants to transfer to another program because the coach that told him and his parents at the kitchen table he would be there for him leaves before he coaches a down. And we make the kid sit out a year if he wants to stay in D1, but the dirtbag coach goes on his merry way.

Big time CFB makes me want to vomit sometimes.

Yea because those kids knew he was recruiting them for 4 years. He was basically an interim HC there. The recruits knew odds are they wouldn't be playing for the guy unless they were amazing. He was going to coach 1 year and retire.

Promote an assistant to interim?

What lesson is that? He hired an interim who has been on staff here for 3 years. A coach who has built personal relationships with Arkansas players.

How do you think Gator players felt when Mullen left? Did you sympathize with them? Did you hope your AD "learned a lesson" through all of that?

Its the nature of the business. Had Smith not been gone when Petrino was fired, he would have been hit with the interim tag 3 weeks ago.

True could have but none of the assistants have had any HC exp. He didn't want to promote OC/DC and throw more on their plate, the coaches below them were even less experienced. He had to bring someone in to just handle the media/boosters/ect.

With smith he is bringing in a coach that has been in the spotlight, that is well connected with all the players(The players love the guy), and that has experience handling managerial duties. He didn't have that as an option with any assistant on staff.

Every head coach starts with no HC experience. These guys would also have an advantage of already being in and familiar with the program.

Not really that big of a deal. Many HC are the de facto OC or DC anyways.

He is bringing in a guy that ran out on a program before he ever coached a game, and for what? To coach one year? Absolute dick move, by both parties.

I like arky but I now hope they fail miserably for at least this year.
