Oxford's a special place. The football atmosphere has been lacking lately. Hopefully it'll pick up soon.

I think (or hope) most of us realize that college football is on an entire different level in SEC country. Most of the "football is bigger in Texas" references I think are to HS football, which is probably overhyped now anyways.

I enjoyed watching Arkansas play Texas A&M for the past two years. Based on that performance I would say that A&M is a middle to high quality SEC school. They have great talent. Mike Sherman was a good coach. I will wonder how this coach will be. If he is an authoritarian type of coach like Nick Saban and Steve Spurrier he better know his X's and O's or hes going to get booed out of college station. An "I want winners" attitude is only tolerable when you win.

There has definitely been a lot of publicity regarding the move in Texas (whether it be positive or negative) but other than us Aggies, who are very excited about the move, Others just wont realize how big a move this is until we actually start playing some of you guys.

Sumlin is an X and O guy. That's his strong suit. He has Kingsbury at OC who might be 30 or 32 years old. It's Sumlin's offense.

He also was a LB in college so he's not ignorant on that side of the ball

Whats ironic is that A&M, TT, Texas, Baylor ditched 4 other fellow Texas schools to join a conference in 1996 with schools from Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri.

and NOW they're playing the "Texas pride" card??

There is no doubt that this is happening, but it reeks of desperation. Remember, Texas borders 2 SEC states and 1 Big 12 state.

IMHO, Texas athletes are going to be really blessed in the recruiting opportunities they have.

SEC West, Big XII, and Big East schools will be playing in and recruiting in Texas. And just give it a couple of years: each week the Big 12 offers Texas vs Iowa State, Texas vs Kansas, etc., the Aggies will be lacing up to play the SEC West and the occasional SEC East team. Over time, that lineup will win eyeballs.

First off, who gives a flying f### about Baylor. Seriously. Second, who gives a damn about Texas? They aren't an Alabama. They aren't Florida. They aren't LSU. They aren't Georgia. They aren't Tennessee. They aren't Auburn. Let them enjoy their games against Baylor, Tcu, Texas Tech, Kansas, and so on. They know deep down they couldn't hang with the "big boys." They'll snicker at A&M or try and slander yall in anyway possible, but at least yall had the sack to join up and play with the best.

Well they are the two schools A&M has the most history with. We've played Texas 118 times and Baylor 108. The next closest is TCU at 92 and we've played them just once since the SWC folded.

I think we would have actually tried to keep playing Baylor had Ken Starr not started threatening lawsuits.

You know, for all the "advantages" that Texas has, they've only won ONE national title with a team that featured black starters? Seriously, one in the last 40 years. Damn.

This has always blown my mind. Most SEC schools are in states with populations of 3 - 5 million. Population of TX is almost 25,000,000. Shouldn't that alone give them an advantage? Have never seen a university do so little with so much.

A&M fans, what are your thoughts on this? Why do they (UT) always garner so much national attention (overhyped preseason ranks, etc) and continually disappoint?

Lost me on that one.

There's no coach, college or pro, who has more dramatic and mind-numbing collapses by his teams over his history as an offensive coordinator and head coach than Mike Sherman.

"4th and 26" only refers to one play.

There is definitely a lot of excitement from our fans, but there's still the media backlash of us leaving. Recruiting has been great and our fans are definitely excited (as we have been for a while) but the media is still criticizing it and discussing the different ways it will go wrong. That will probably never change either.

Same thing with us. You still have certain parts of the media in our State criticizing the move. People stating that we have forfeited K.C. recruiting and presence to kU, KSU, and Iowa State (Ill pause for your laughter).

It's all potential energy right now. Once SEC teams start coming to Texas, it'll be Kinetic. Just give it a little time.

I also agree with this for our School also. No schools closeby will be able to compete with the product on the field that Mizzou will provide being in the SEC. The same is true for TAMU. You cant tell Me KSU - Iowa State or Tech - Baylor compares to the games Mizzou and TAMU will offer now.

Does the media and other coaches/fans there play the distance and location card with your move as well? Tuberville said this week that we opened up Houston recruiting to Tech ( ) because kids will want to "stay in Texas". Other media outlets have reiterated the same point.

It's obviously not true, we will still be playing all our home games in Texas and the travel really isn't that much different, just wondering.

base13, might want to take back Longhorn baseball. They are legit

And I have no idea why the state of Texas has so many players yet A&M and Texas haven't turned that into titles like the state of Florida has

In all seriousness, I'm guessing that in Big 12 meetings they developed a game plan on how to handle A&M and Mizzou leaving. Talking points were established, and "rules" were agreed to:

-No one is to play A&M or Mizzou in any sport, no exceptions.

-Everyone is to hammer home that the Big 12 is the true "Texas" conference.

-Everyone is to harp on how little games A&M will play within the state, which is detrimental to student athletes and their families.

To that plan I say good luck.

Its funny you asked this. A "Mizzou" writer at the K.C. Star was seriously suggesting Iowa State would be able to come in and tell Missouri recruits "You can come to ISU and when we play local teams your family will be able to see us in kansas, over Mizzou who plays so many far opponents." Apparently we dont have home games anymore. I mean I am sure there is some intrigue to watching the two future Conference USA foes duke it out but lets be serious.
