We'll see what happens. I'm certainly not worried about Tech stealing Houston recruits, as I'm sure y'all aren't worried about Iowa State stealing any Missouri recruits

Another KSU guy on the radio keeps arguing that it was stupid for us to go to the SEC because the Big XII isnt going anywhere. "Nobody will accept Texas with the LHN." I guess thats what a conference should be about. No one being where they want to be because they have no better options. I have heard Texas is talking behind the scenes to the Pac-12 again so this should be comedy from here on out.

Has there been a positive shift of excitement (fans, media, potential recruits, etc.) regarding Texas A&M football compared to Texas football now that yall have joined the SEC? I know that Texas is still the top dog in the state and they finished #2 in recruiting rankings (Rivals), but is there more energy, discussion, and excitement with A&M than Texas?

texas is such a huge state geographically that also has a built in advantage of producing incredible raw football talent, that the state, as a whole, has become very insular. it seems that the general feeling is that no matter how the big 12 teams do against other conferences, they are still bigger & better. i guess it's the "everything is bigger in texas" mentality.

a&m is going to get catch a lot of grief from the eleven or so girlfriends they left in the bevo conference until they find their feet in the sec. hopefully, with a new coach in a new conference, they will do ok....they certainly cannot complain about their recruiting base.

best advice: coach sumlin, convert some of that awesome texas talent to defense....

5-6 hours from DFW, 8-9 from Houston

It really isn't closer than many of the SEC West schools....especially to Houston.

New things in Lubbock? It's like 9 hours away from Houston, still about twice the distance as Baton Rouge and the same distance as Fayetteville.

There's no coach, college or pro, who has more dramatic and mind-numbing collapses by his teams over his history as an offensive coordinator and head coach than Mike Sherman.

- Still managed to pump back solid and somewhat consistent recruiting in his tenure, after it was was completely destroyed by Fran.

- Managed to beat OU, Nebraska, and tu all in the same season. Something that hadn't happened since Colorado did it on the way to a National Title.

- By the player's own account, reshaped, and refocused the number 2 overall pick in Von Miller, Defensive Rookie of the Year

- Managed to develop a QB most likely going in the top 10 of the NFL draft in Ryan Tannehill.

- Recruited the Lou Groza Award winner, and likely NFL kicker, Randy Bullock.

- Recruited Jeff Fuller, Cyrus Gray, Jake Matthews, Luke Joeckel, Christine Michael, Ryan Swope, Coryell Judie and Cedric Ogbuehi who most people believe will play in the NFL. Terrence Fredrick is invited to the combine and will be a 7th rounder or a UFA.

- TJE has something to prove, but he might play on Sundays. I have a feeling DaMontre Moore, Drew Kaser, Howard Matthews, Trey Williams, and Floyd Raven also have an outside shot at the league.

- He made a concentrated effort to redevelop and reestablish recruiting ties to Louisiana high schools. By many accounts, he did a far greater job of that in Texas, where Fran wasn't too popular. Also outreaching to many Mississippi JUCOs, developing pipelines in other states.

- He spearheaded and donated a million dollars to our new player development center, kick starting the desperate renewal of our facilities.

- He made great coaching hires in Terrell Williams, Tim DeRuyter, Jim Turner, and Tom Rossley.

Mike Sherman's greatest short comings, by his own admission, was his in game micro managing. When the season started to crumble, and the 3rd quarter problems creeped in, Mike Sherman was too busy running through plays as his offensive coordinator duties trumped his head coaching duties. The 2011 Aggie Football team was an extremely talented bunch that lacked much leadership. Offseason workouts lead by the seniors of the team was probably one of his worse mistakes, as that Okie State game when the season began it's slide was centered on a third quarter that was marked by 40 offensive plays by Oklahoma State, and 5 by Texas A&M, in an extrememly hot and humid day in College Station. Those 5 offensive plays where A&M surrendered the lead, and it's most promising season in 15 years? A freshman wide receiver cramped out of his break on an easy third down conversion, and the same receiver fumbled the ball after running 50 yards down the middle of the field, erasing field goal position for a game decided by one point.

- Mike Sherman wasn't the greatest head coach of all time, but he was building a program the right way, he was recruiting great talent, and he will be unfairly judged for the mistakes made by his teams.

My belief, until I see otherwise, is that Kevin Sumlin will be a disastrous failure. I think his offense is dumb and he hasn't recruited well.

We get bagged on for agreeing to go to Gainsville every other Year. Yet we would have had to do the same with Lubbock under a 10 Team format. Much easier to fly to JAX/Orlando and drive to UF, then to fly to Dallas or Houston and drive to TT.

TeLaFeWx, your hero Mike Sherman batted .500 as a Head Coach.

The man you think will be a big failure is a two-time College FB Head Coach of the Year candidate.

Maybe you can't really evaluate college coaches?

I also don't understand the recruiting statement. He lost some from the 2012 class but gained some also, and did a decent enough job given the circumstances. He's off to a very good start on 2013.

The media hates Texas A&M

This is what cost LSU the BCS Championship. Les saw all of that coverage and just gave up.

Now, the sales pitch and the allure of the SEC is much more legitimate and the negative recruiting line of "So what if you're playing in the SEC, you'll only lose", is proven wrong.

If aTm can compete out of the gate, you should be able to turn this on its head and beat the hell out of the Horns and the rest of the Big 12 (or whatever they are)with the statement of their inferiority. Use your success to show them to be the wimps they are to the kids all over Texas.

Sherman sucked. So thankful our admin finally made the right decision here instead of sticking with him another year. This whole staff we have in place now has already shown a dramatic difference in recruiting approach. Can't wait to see what they do on the field.

Right. However, we must achieve the minimum amount of success to do that. IMO, that will take consecutive 8-win seasons, which will be very difficult to do before the 2015 recruits sign. It means we have to do it in 2013 and 2014.

If Sumlin is the guy, I think we can do it. And if we don't, we remain in limbo unless the next 3 season produce more Ls than Ws. In that case, A&M will be in a huge hole as the entire state will be coming down very hard with ammunition to back their positions.

There is definitely a lot of excitement from our fans, but there's still the media backlash of us leaving.

Let 'em lash their backs all they want. Joining the SEC could perhaps be the greatest and best single decision that's ever been made in regard to your program. And it's only gonna get better. Book it.

AKA, the plus with you guys this season is you don't have an easy run to 5-0 like you have had most years recently to start the season. You'll know what's up early and be able to talk real talk on Texags. Spreadsheet won't have everyone in a tizzy believing in ghosts...

When is your OPEN week, btw??
