Football scoring trivia question

Is it possible for a team to only score 1 point in a football game?
I'm not talking about a forfeit, and I'm not talking about Canadian football.
Could Alabama possibly beat LSU 13-1 on Saturday?
OK, LSU fans...could LSU possibly beat Alabama 13-1 on Saturday?

I've seen a 1 point safety on a two point play.

Not sure if serious
Very serious. And I obviously wouldn't have asked unless the answer is yes.
How?

Safety on an extra point?
Posted on 10/30/11 at 8:54 pm to BamaGradinTn
Yes you can. Safety on an extra point try gains 1 point in HS and NCAA

Yep, it's possible but highly unlikely. Read something years ago that if the offensive team somehow gets tackled in the opposite endzone on a PAT then the "safety" is worth one point, something along those lines anyway.

Return a blocked PAT? Not sure if that yields one point, but it's all I can think of.

We have two winners. Defense somehow manages to score a safety on a PAT or 2 point conversion.
Don't think it's ever happened, don't think it ever will.

Really???
How on earth did it happen? I know the rule book has to cover every eventuality, but how did it happen?

No, the only way to score only 1 point in a game is a forfeit, which records the score 1-0.

You're correct, but the OP specifically asked if it was possible without a forfeit. And it is although I doubt it will ever happen.

Come on, OhioVol...how did it happen? Blocked PAT that got booted and batted back up the field until it went out the back of the other endzone? QB running for his life on a 2 pt attempt getting sacked for a safety?
Posted on 10/30/11 at 9:05 pm to BamaGradinTn
The only way I see it as possible is either a pick on a 2pt. conversion or a block on a PAT being run back by the other team, the player fumbling near the goal line, and then the attempting team recovering in the endzone.

I'm pretty sure the defense can't advance a blocked kick on a PAT

[quote]I've seen a 1 point safety on a two point play.[/quoteThe National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Football Rulebook delineates six different kinds of scoring plays, each with particular point values. These include touchdowns (6 points), successful field goals (3 points), and safeties (2 points). The rulebook also stipulates three ways to score points after a touchdown: a 2-point conversion (2 points), a successful extra point kick (1 point), and an extra-point safety (1 point). Incidences of 1-point safeties are extremely rare, with only three occurring since the establishment of new rules in 1988.
